As soon as iTunes 11.1 installed on my MBP Lion, my phone stopped USB tethering. It can still use the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth personal hotspots but not the USB option. Updating to iOS7 didn't fix the problem.
Anyone else experiencing this? Got solutions? Thanks!

I got the same problem. Tried to reinstall iOS 7 but it will still not work. It works with bluetooth and wifi, but not with USB-tethering. I got an iPhone 4S.
Same issue. OSX 10.7.5 updating to iTunes 11.1. iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3. iTunes recognizes iPhone via USB, tethering works via WiFi so that suggests the issue is with the USB tethering. It worked on the previous version of iTunes before upgrading to 11.1.
The fix is to download "Kext Utility" (for ML http://cvad-mac.narod.ru/index/0-4
for SL Lion and other cats do a search, I used SL one.......
and run it, and drag and drop an OLD working "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" file... (http://www.mediafire.com/download/44rgtt5k6ot0t72/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext.zip)
and it does its thing for a few minutes and fixes it.....
but you might want to shop around for the right AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext file that works if the above one doesnt...
I used 10.7 itunes one and it worked with itunes 11.1 and now I have USB tethering back as new....
Thank you! I just had to manually set up the connection again via System Preferences and it worked!
How do you do a manual set up for USB Cable? I only have options for Wifi, Bluetoot, Ethernet and FireWire when pressing + in Network Prefs
Hmm... When I clicked on the + it automatically determined I needed to set-up an iPhone USB connection. I already had "personal hotspot" turned on tho so maybe make sure that you do the same? Sorry don't have more info.
This one solve my issue. I've just downloaded Kext Utility for Mac OS X Lion and downloaded that file on link, restarted my computer and it works for may iPhone 5 USB Personal Hotspot. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. But why should I risk to install an utility and who knows what else it is doing just to get USB Tether possibility. I better wait for a fix then...
There's nothing wrong in trying, in fact, this workaround worked for me. And besides, there's no particular date yet on when will it be fixed, so there's no harm in looking for some resources.

- Location: Automatic
- iPhone USB (if ur cable is connected already)
- Apply

this has helped me tonight solve my dilemma ever since i have updated my mac, itunes and my iphone 5..
I would suggest one final step after using the Kext Utility. I used the Utility but still couldn't connect so I went to the Network Preferences, Open Network Preferences, then click the + to add a new USB connection. Alas, that did it.

Thanks for the solution. It works on Snow Leopard (the last security update).
I had previously tried to retrieve the file "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" from a Time Machine backup (always in Snow Leopard, and certainly before the update of iTunes) but it did not work neither in Bluetooth or USB.
