This was fixed on my phone just by opening and closing the Calendar app.

Had same issue with iOS7 on iPhone 4S which had no sound on games, videos, netflix. Went to calendar, hit "+"
and typed "test". Sound worked, and volume buttons worked. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A BUG THAT APPLE NEEDS TO FIX !!! Side switch should also be settable to mute and rotation lock for the iPhone just as in the iPAD. Having it available in one device, but not in the other is dumb.

I had this same problem and tried everything from rebootings multiple times to opening the calendar app to unplugging and replugging the headphones in or doing that thing someone suggested with the airplay and nothing worked. Except:

Opening the App Store. Waiting for everything to load. Clicking the "Updates" tab (everything was already updated) and then exiting. That's all I had to do and now it's working perfectly. Hope that helps. Definitely a bug Apple needs to fix ASAP.

I just tried that. No joy.

Trying a full phone reset, yet again.

I've been unable to use the phone all monring (again) at work - having to borrow other people's phones, argh..

I'm going to phone Apple Support at lunchtime. My phone's out of warranty but I would expect to be covered by the IOS7 upgrade - NOTE they told me they couldn't support be last time, but I'll be more 'persuasive' this time, I think.

The final solution (I hope):

I went to the Apple Store and got a replacement iPhone4.

Reasoning - they reported it as a speaker failure.

I explained this forum and other people with the same issue, and my sceptisism that this is anything but a s/w fault. The issue, they beleive, is a hardware problem gradually getting worse and reacting badly to s/w updates, not just IOS 7.... (don't shoot the messenger please).. then getting to a critical point where it was unrecoverable.

They told me they could replace the speaker, but that wouldn't resolve the 2nd issue I have - losing the network and having to do a full reset - which I've been having for 6 months (now daily).

I did get a very good discount from the usual hardware swap-out price offered... I'm on my 4th iPhone 4, due to various problems....I made a strong case for not paying anything, but that wasn't going to happen, I was told.

I have made a log of the issues, and if things go wrong on this new phone, I'll add to it.

I've spent FAR too much time trying to sort this phone out. I feel like I'm a DOS PC user running a shoddy game sometimes. So I'm really looking forward to just using my phone to make calls, and actually getting my work done. Yay.

i went to apple store the other day and made complaints about my iphone 4. the guy at the store suggest that i restore my iphone and if it doesn't work, i need to replace my hardware as he assumes it must be my iphone hardware failure. i told him again and again it's a problem faced worldwide as most people are having the same issues in this discussion.

guess what? apple don't care!😠

Hillorc, you're partially awesome. Your calender trick made my iphone play its first music in weeks.... well played for 5 minutes. Then stopped. then repeated your trick and is works again for a few minutes. At least it proves it is a software issue. So tired of posts about toothbrushing the connector. I wonder if Apple will fix this in an iOS update with tomorrow's Launch event.
