But this isn't the best working response? I have cleaned as instructed and the response of the docking station speakers for the alarm is the same. It will not play from the 4s that was upgraded to ios 7, but will play on my 4s that wasn't upgraded yet. This is definitely ios 7 related and there is no cleaning or brushing explanation that will brush this one under the rug. I have only found one workaround and it isn't the best, but it does work. I read in these PAGES of threads that Apple inserted a script where it knows if you are using a Non-Apple device and blocks the speakers/audio. So If you plug in using an Apple device and then try to use an Non-Apple device you are again with no sound. The Only thing that has worked for me is to Power the phone OFF and then dock it to the Sony Docking alarm clock station. Power the phone on and then turn on the alarm. It works. IF I forget to Power it off, the phone remembers the Apple cord that is connected to the USB in my car and will only flash when the alarm time occurs. Apple Really needs to Back out this crazy restriction and if they cannot see that nearly 100,000 users are frustrated, then I don't know what it takes to get their attention. I am sure Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave with the lack of customer service.

I wholeheatedly agree with you DGBS and your comment that was on page 14 at the time of my viewing. A non-IOS 7 iPhone 4s of earlier model on the same docking station plays without issue even with brushing, dusting and powering on/off and flipping the mute. The IOS 7 version 4s NO LONGER plays. I have resorted back to using the Radio station on the docking station as the alarm and using the docking as my charger only for the phone. I guess I don't listen to it on the alarm clock anyway, but to assume this is NOT an APPLE bug that needs to be fixed is crazy. I love how they keep working on newer versions to fix the Facetime, which I could really care less about, but not one investigative resolution about the sound and with now over 100,000 viewers to this thread seems to mean This IS Still an ISSUE.

I had this problem twice and found two ways of sovling it. 1) To hold hardly (phisically press) on the right side of the back-panel of the iPhone (where the microphone is) or press hardly again on the fron panel, on the place of the headphone. 2) To open Viber/Skype (calling app) and try to call someone or change the sound. This helped me on my iPhone 4S.

This just recently started happening to my 4s. It's driving me nuts. My phone is pretty much useless now. I mean, there is NO sound, when there clearly should be! It happened not long after installing 7.0.4.

I am supposed to sell my phone before my new 5s arrive, but now I feel like I am selling a faulty product!!! How will any buyer accept this? We need a solution now!!!!!

guys!!!! it may sound like a joke but the solution exred provides on page 2 "It is simple as 1-2-3. Just squeze  around speakers - left/right from the dock connector. And sound is back ... NICE! and that after 4 hours browsing the Internet reading no solution" worked for me !!!!! i have a 4S and at first i thought it was a joke but i said what the **** and did it...and BOOM sound is back on......can't actually understand it since prior to iOS upgrade i didnt have similar issue..... let us know if that solves your problem

    Hi all,

After trying just about every solution proposed in here, I noticed that as I was trying to fix it, I was obviously moving the phone around... loosing the sound but with Siri launching...

Anyway, stumbled my way to the Siri settings, disabling "Raise to Speak" and that did it for me. It's been over 3 weeks nwo and the sound is still ON.

Hope this helps others and assist Apple in pinpointing the issue.

    One can only hope, right?

    Anyway, Happy Holidays to all.

I had same issue; This guy's advice solved mine.

I blew into charger port and then plugged in charger a couple times and hey presto; volume and audio back.

I think it thought there was something in there.

My wife had the same issue with her iPhone 4.  The vomlume bar was grey inside the music app and the buttons didn't work.  I knew the speakers were fine because it would play the ringtone under the sound menu.  Headphones worked just fine.  I carefully cleaned out the charging port with rubbing alcohol while the phone was off.  When I turned it back on, it works!

All I did to fix the problem was stick a dime where the pins are and push lightly down. Voila it worked. Be gentle with it though

Had the same issue - I cleaned the dock connector with a new toothbrush and voila! Problem solved.
