    **UPDATE**

This has nothing to do with mistreating my 4S, as it was fine overnight but the moment i used my earphones today, the same thing started happening again.

APPLE, FIX THIS ASAP!! THE WHOLE POINT OF A MULTITASKING DEVICE IS TO BE ABLE TO SWITCH FROM EARPHONES>MUSIC, TO CALLS WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH THESE ISSUES. THIS IS SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO THE EVERYDAY USAGE WHICH I'M SURE MANY USERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT AND IF IT'S NOT FIXED BEFORE THE SUMMERTIME THEN I'M SWITCHING TO ANDROID!!

I had the same problem, nothing I did fixed it, no reset or anything. I finally decided to pop out my sim card. I took a thumb tack and took it out then re inserted it and what do you know, the sounf on everything worked. The soud in my music player, apps, and my sound buttons worked.

    Hello: Greetings from Venezuela.

I have the same issue like yours. The ringtones, music and app radio (tune in) work perfectly but the rest of the apps don´t)  If I connect the earphones and a speaker it sounds excellent.I cleaned the dock area and my device continues the same.

    Any idea, please?

    thanks.

I have this same issue.  The volume on the apps is grayed out.  Did you find a solution?

I fear the solution might be as easy as getting an android device. Frustrating... Half of what I just typed produced clicks, half didn't.

Actually I should amend my snarky post.

Here were my symptoms (were, as in I think I just fixed it). I have an iPad3

Could not power down... It would just power back on all by itself.

Could not watch videos in any player - they would pause and/or the audio would stop.

Key clicks were intermittent... They would come and go as I typed.

So I did what several people suggested and I got a small brush like the kind you get with a coffee grinder or an electric razor and I cleaned the docking connector with rubbing alcohol. Really clean... Obsessively clean. That was ten minutes ago and it has been perfect ever since. I have not dropped so much as a single key click in this entire message. You tubes and videos are playing completely normally. I powered it off and it stayed off.

Trust me... Just clean the damned connector. It only took me a few months to give in. Duh!

i dont know if it was the cause of trouble but when i deleted all the 7GB (had 1 GB free) of music seemed to solve the problem. Now sound works all the time, will try to install some music and see what happens again.
