I also have a iphone 4s with no audio for Music or Apps with sound like Youtube! But i know my speakers

work because my alarm has audio....when i call someone i can hear them and when my alarm goes off

i hear it! Verizon told me it is possibly a SOFTWARE issue and this is when i was on update 6.1.3

since my speakers were working just not with apps that had audio or music! So i recommend the following

    1. delete account from itunes and Start over! 2. settings>general>RESET all SETTINGS! (CAUTION) or

    3. take to an apple store 4. get a new phone! But i truely believe it is a Corrupt Back up on your desktop

ITUNES and when you restore your just putting the same bad stuff back on your phone! So what to do???

I took extreme measures:  I wiped my phone down to bare metal -- I restored from Apple's 6.3 system image, and then patched to 7.0.  Problem persists.  Not happy.

Well, none of the other solutions worked for me.. However, I flipped my silent switch to silent and instead of the bell (ringer setting icon) showing that I switched it to silent mode, it looked as if I had just turned my ringers back on. So I switched it on and off a few times and it solved my problem. Originally, my ringers were not working for text, calls, emails or anything else and my keytones had stopped working too. Music would play and movies and such but no notification noises or alerts at all. Hopefully this helps some of you too!

Problem is simply that the phone thinks it is docked. If you look at the airplay list it shows dock connector when it isn't working and iphone speaker when it is.  Meanwhile nothing is plugged in to the dock connector

Seems to be a bug in the detection if something is connected

I have this problem right now and it's really annoying me I hate this I can't hear my keyboard sounds button clicks or nothing I can't even play my music outlout but it does play in my earphones but whenever I try to turn my phone up using the control buttons there is no response and what usually shows a bar with volume increasing is now a blank grey iOS 7 symbol of the bell with no response. Please help apple we need iOS 7.1 ASAP don't forget about us iPhone 4S users yet.

Tried all the methods mentioned above - no joy.

However, I noticed I'd turned off Bluetooth. As soon as I activated it, sorted!

I have the same problem . . . however I have found a way around it. Plug your phone into your charger (airplay now says 'dock connected') if you disconnect now = no sound. Instead plug in your head phones and play your music. While 'headphones' are now selected in airplay, disconnect your charger. Unplug your head phones and you should now have sound again. To prevent this from happening every time you unplug just hit play on your music first, then unplug. (you won't need to use your head phones this time) It's not perfect but it's what I've been doing the past 24 hrs and it's working for me. I hope it helps some of you.

I'm having the same issue with iPhone 4S. Only time speakers on phone are letting out noise is on incoming calls, speakerphone, and alarm clock (started a day and a half after I updated to iOS 7.). Phone shows no volume slider for anything. Have called apple quite a few times and have been told that it is a hardware issue and my warranty expired 6 days ago. If it's a hardware issue as they say then why am I able to put it on speakerphone? It is a software issue. They want me to connect my phone to my computer, wipe it, and restore it. Unfortunately this cannot be done because they told me I need wifi to do this and my only source of wifi is my phone. Y'all seem to have more ideas than the people that actually work for Apple so perhaps you could throw some suggestions my way. P.S. I've tried all the suggestions listed so far that do not require a wifi connection.

see my post above - the volume slider is not there because it thinks our phones are docked. You need to trick the phone like I suggest in  my post and it will work again.
