I updated to iOS 7, deleted my shared icloud, but now can't add mine. HELP!!

I found a discussion that told me to delete my icloud (it was shared) so I did this. Then it said to just add my new account using the apple id alrady on the phone. Problem is when I try this it says this operation could not be completed. I even went in and had apple send me a new verification email to verify my apple id and restarted my phone. I remember having an issue a while back when i first tried to set up the icloud and thats why I just used one already in the house. I want my own, but cannot seem to make it happen.
