The point is iTunes install is messed up and repairing permissions does not fix it, whether you do it or the nstaller does it.

I have the same issue with the permissions after installing iTunes 11.1, but apparently worse than what is reported so far and it cannot be ignored because:

On my iMac OSX 10.8.5 16 Go RAM, the log list of repaired permissions remains 105 pages long (on Pages, so appropriate...). I have repaired them half a dozen times with identical result.

Fortunately, I copied the last log onto a USB key.

After that, the computer started suffocating completely. Within a few minutes, I could no longer use browsers, apps, open screencasts, images, etc... The iMac stalled with a screen that would appear normal if the Finder was usable, if Intego was not stuck in the middle of a post update analysis, and if an image selected for a quick view was not unopened with the coloured wheel turning unrelentingly.

I am not closing down the computer. (writing on another one)

Also managed to send a desperate complaint to Apple via the iTunes "Comments" menu, the last time I could use iTunes which then took 5 minutes to open.

Any chance of a mail reply from Apple? I don't expect them to phone me in Europe.

Does anybody have an idea?

I have the same problem. Additionally, after installing iTune 11.1, now two of my third party audio apps no longer works - they cannot find the Coreaudio drivers. Otherwise these apps work fine, so it appears they no longer have access to areas where Coreaudio information is stored. So at least for me, this hardly fits in the "safely ignored" category. I'm not just concerned, I'm frustrated and quite disappointed with this install.

FWIW, this was really the worst Apple install experience in a long, long time. I hope it's not a new trend as I've been using Macs since 1988 and have quite a number of them. Until I see an iTunes update from Apple, I won't be updating any more iPhones to iOS7 or iTunesto 11.1 as I simply can't afford to waste any more time with this.

There is news. I managed to speak with the support of an experienced and very knowledgeable Apple has taken to heart. He sent me a file that has generated a report on the status of my MacBook Pro Retina Display. This report was sent to Cupertino so engineers can carry out the necessary changes to fix the problem. But they were already aware of the problem and we are working on to fix this bug. The technician told me that will contact me to inform on the solution. However, it is already being considered issuing a patch for OS-X 10.8.5 and iTunes 11.1. As soon as I have news I report it. Hopefully it's just a matter of a few days. A big hello.

Same here, but this is nothing new. Shockingly and amazingly, different Apple Mac updates (OS X and different Applications) have generated these permission problems again and agan, for many years now. See it to believe it. They are probably too bussy with the iOS toys... Shame!

At any rate, I printed out your long instructions and followed them down to the letter. They were detailed with everything in the right order, and I could hardly go wrong.

Very glad I did so because although the 105 page permissions are still there, according to Onyx, the iMac is again behaving correctly. I am using it now.

So whatever happened to our conversation, thank you very much indeed!!

Very surprising though: I am a frequent forum user and I have never seen discussions disappear in this manner, unless something very inappropriate was said which was certainly not the case. Censure in Apple discussions??? Or maybe it is because I am new here 😉

As you may have noticed, I prefer to ask stupid questions beforehand rather than make silly mistakes, so I would just like one more info:

The only thing I did not do was to bin the contents of library's Cache and Saved Application State folders. I see that they both contain a large number of sub-folders.

Did you mean that I should forward to trash all the sub-folders and files in Cache and Saved App State folders? Which would imply that all the sub-folders are re-created by the system (as is the case with eliminated .plists?)

Or should I go into each sub-folder and select its files, leaving the sub-folders where they are?

May I kindly remind you that my iMac was thoroughly disturbed, i.e. stalled, and that what "messed it up" - to use your expression - was a faulty update issued by Apple for iTunes, one of Apple's major apps. And that, as far as I can see, no official comment has been made by Apple on the subject.

I thought an Apple forum would be the best place to receive good practical advice. Which I got. If there was anything you considered dubious in the instructions I received, you or some other Senior could have used your knowledge to correct what you considered insufficient, to help getting me out of a tight spot. Instead of deleting.

By the way, I was one of the few forum writers who did not care to complain about Apple in general. Apparently this would have been better accepted.

Since this is the case, I am personally very disappointed with Apple's policy. Instead of producing their traditionally reliable computers, Apple now appears to be mainly interested in selling new, smaller devices for which today's market is considered more profitable. The computer ("lorry") clients have to manage with frequent system upgrades - so frequent that third party app editors cannot follow - and software updates made in a hurry to satisfy the needs of Apple's newer devices.

I am glad that you are able to use your mac again and that I could help. As long as your mac is working fine, forget about deleting the contents of the user library's Cache and Saved Application State folders. If you did delete them, the system would recreate them again, but as long as things are working. "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!"

The iTunes permissions will continue to be listed when you use Repair permissions under Disk Utility until Apple releases an update. For now, as long as iTunes and your mac are working, just accept the list of hundreds of permissions, as I do. As I mentioned before, Apple told me that we could safely ignore them but clearly there is an issue with iTunes 11.1 as I have never seen so many permissions errors listed before.

Oh, and yes, Apple deleted my previous instructions. I am glad, however, that you are back and able to use your iMac. Mac's are fine computers and so are their operating systems.

I have a neighbor who has Windows 8 installed on his PC and boy, is that system hard to use and navigate!

Oh by the way, in answer to your question about the contents of the user library's Cache and Saved Application State folders, if you ever have to do it, select everything - folders and files within these folders and move them to the trash. Deleting the user's library cache, can speed up your computer, and deleting the contents of the Saved Application State folder, can sometimes correct minor issues in the way programs are running. And as I mentioned, the contents of these folders will be recreated so not to worry. Remember if you do this, you cannot empty the trash until you reboot the iMac. Glad I could help.

I know this is off topic, but I hope the update also addresses the built in iSight camera not working with 32 bit applications (like Skype) on the new Mid-2013 MacBook Airs, which are by the way, great computers.
