Mac Battery Runs Out Really Fast!

Hi folks!
Just recently for this year I noticed my MacBook Pro's running out of battery power really super quickly!
No matter how long I have to charge it for even if I charge it for full time the battery runs out for around 40 minutes to an hour.

This is very frustrating because I can see the battery bar knob just run down every 10 minutes after charging.

Really desperate for help because i'm sick of always sitting at the same place on a chair using this thing I like to lie down and use it sometimes too, I hate always having to have the charger plugged in all the time when I take it anywhere.

The Mac runs down a lot especially if I use IMovie. This is ANNOYING because I like to use Imovie often so I always have to have the charger in often.

It's only about two years old.

Nothing else is a problem with it, just the annoying battery.

Please can I get soem helpful "hands on" help from other people who have had this problem? Couldn't find that much on Apple's online support suggestions. Or should I get a new battery in general?
Either way I just don't want to keep on having to charge it all the time. The battery's probably already broken because of that?

Hello everybody. @frederic1943 I have a Mac version 10.6 - sorry! Is there a way to find out how to get a system report differently?

@saarahmrh - I recommend you should wait until the battery fully runs down, and then charge it afterwards. If you keep on charging it when the battery is not lost yet then you may be damaging the battery charger.

Also it's best to use the Mac when you're NOT charging it if you want to take it with you, if you use your mac while charging this uses up a lot of energy and the battery could run down really fast.

I'm new user of macbook. I had some issues with the battery with my old laptop so I just want to make sure that I do good to this new one. Please suggest me when to charge my battery! Should I just wait it until I get the warning to charge or when (like if the battery is 20% or 30%?) should I plug in the magsafe or when? Thanks in advance.

Batteries these days are not suseptible to the same situations that batteries used to be when rechargable batteries were NiCad batteries. Now they use different technologies and you don't have to wait till they are fully discharged to plug them in and recharge them. This isn't saying that you shouldn't do it once in a while, but you don't have to do it every time. Now it's more cycles that wear down batteries. A cycle doesn't happen at a half discharge to full charge either. It's more going to be a cycle if you did that twice, so if you went to 50% and then charged full, then went to 50% and charged full again, that is a cycle. So I wouldn't worry about having to fully discharge the battery before plugging it in and charging it again. But, I would suggest doing it every once in a while.

Frederic,

I am having this issue, just got my macbook pro in August 2013. My battery draines really fast. I charged it to 100%, unplugged it. Have been using it for little over 1 hour and it is on 73%. I only went to a 2 or 3 webpages... I have one webpage open because my one book for school is an ebook. Its a web book though... not a download.

I did what you said about copying and pasting system report... Can you tell me anything from this..
