fall back to old SMC mode

I've been searching the internet on how to fix this issue and not sure if it's causing the issue that my computer is really having or not (where Firefox and other programs become slow and unresponsive and sometimes need to force quit).

I have reset my computer back to factory settings, thinking that part of the issue was something that I downloaded. SO now all that is off my computer and the only thing I have put back on my computer is Firefox and updates.

Here is the error's I'm having:

localhost kernel[0]: SMC::smcInitHelper ERROR: MMIO regMap == NULL - fall back to old SMC mode

Can someone please tell me if that is what is causing my computer to have issues? Or to help fix what is causing my issues... Thank you in advance.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Hi Linc Davis,

I am going back to you on this probably abandon subject.

My Hardware:

Model Name: MacBook Pro

Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1

Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number of Processors: 1

Total Number of Cores: 2

L2 Cache: 4 MB

Memory: 2 GB

Bus Speed: 800 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07

System Software Overview:

System Version: OS X 10.9 (13A603)

Kernel Version: Darwin 13.0.0

I didn't make a fresh install of Mavericks, I should have done!

Bit by bit I am cleaning the MBP from all the old OS Xs (since 2006), software, driver, ...

A lot of junk, some dangerous with Mavericks. Found some PowerPC, WesternDigital (I didn't loose my data on the external drives, for the moment I switch to USB vs Firewire), Maxtor one Touch, Google updater,...

The next stone in line I want to understand is this SMC.

So I have done what you ask to BBowen4, here is the result:

In normal mode, selecting "SMC":

I have seen some link with istat, I don't have it.

The only application with a MSC "tone" is : (Should I delete them)

MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update.app vers. 1.3 - 2009

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update.app vers. 1.0.1 - 2008

Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update.app vers .1.5 - 2009

Is it an old extension having a go, waiting to be deleted?

Best regards

B
