(iOS 7) Siri Still Sounds Like a Robot; Not Human.

Apple said Siri will sound "more human than ever" and well, it did. On the commercial and on YouTube reviews, it sounded clean, crisp, and natural. But not for me.
I upgraded to iOS 7 today and it sounds so robotic. The female sounds different than iOS 6's version, but it's no more human, and I mean at all. It has the robotic "static" or "white noise" sound to it. The male is the same way. When I beta tested iOS 7 beta 2, the voices sounded SUPER human, just like the iOS 7 ad, but now it doesn't. I would really like help. The new Siri was very important to me and now it just annoys me.

I have the same problem!! It annoys the crap out of me!

I have a 3rd generation iPad running iOS7 along with my iPhone 5 and the IPAD'S SIRI WORKS JUST FINE! I put the two next to each other and asked the same question and its like night a day...totally different. The iPad's siri sounds as advertised; human like, seamless, and natural with a better detailed speaking voice. The iPhone 5 on the other hand; raspy robotic with a muffled slight mono-tone.

I have had this issue in the past with iOS 5 and 6 as well. Each time I would simply and unfortunately completely erase and restore to the "new phone" option in iTunes. This used to take care of the issue so I obviously tried with iOS7....NO GO. Still the exact same problem.

I have been reading around on this and I only found two possibilities that MIGHT help:

1. Go into Settings/General/Accessibility/Voice Over. From there apparently you need to TURN ON compact voice WITHOUT turning voice over on. (I haven't tried that just yet so let me know if that works)

2. Simply wait a few days and apparently it should (or might) fix itself.

Would be nice if things ALL completely worked right out of the box (or in this case OTA, over the air) as things used to back in the early iMac and MacBook days...

Thanks for the input, killhippie but the issue stands when the phone isn't new...as in my case. I've had my iphone 5 since it came it out so it's by no means "new". But if you are right, I hope it gets better some how today.

Going back to Dakota Cosin's issue as well, I think there might be another fix. Try pluggin the phone into iTunes and open the iPhone area. There should be a selection down toward the bottom to turn on or off voice over. I think if you toggle that selection (turn on then off) it might fix the issue.

I dont know other than that....maybe we just have to wait for it to fix itself...who knows?

Hi mate. Was having the same problem. Siri sounded worse than ever!! Here's how to fix the problems... Go to settings, general, accessibility, then select voice over, scroll down to languages and dialects select your language.. There is an option that will pop up that says use enhanced voice. You will need to be connected to a wifi network but it will then download the enhanced version. Everything should then be back to normal. I still can't however select the gender as advertised . I assume that will come later.

I faced that problem too!! when I updated my iPad 4 to iOS 7 Siri got better but when I heard her on my cousin's iPad mini it sounded differecnt sounded natural like a human so I knew I had a problem, I searched Google and found this post about it and I tired every solution except for erase and reset all data, so 30 minutes earlier fomr now, I backed up my iPad 4 on iTunes then erase all data then restored it again, after doing this Siri was the same, still roboti! So I was updating the app again ( some of them) then I tried Siri again and now it's really way better!! the problem is fixed now!!! Siri sounds more natural and like a human!!!

Try it, it might work for you! It worked for me and I hope it still like this ( I'm just little afraid that Siri gets back to sound Robotic! I hope not) good luck man, try all the suggested solutions, one of them might work for you.

How to fix Siri's Robotic\Muffled voice (Works within an hour - No reboot required - Tested on US English iPhone 5)

Note: Keep track settings 2-7 below. Because you will be changing them back

  1. Enable Wifi
  2. Settings>General>Siri>Language (Change)
  3. Settings>General>Siri>Voice Gender (Change)
  4. Settings>General>Siri> (Disable Siri)
  5. Settings>General>Siri>Accessibility>VoiceOver (Enable Compact Voice)
  6. Settings>General>Siri>Accessibility>VoiceOver>Languages & Dialects>Default Dialect>U.S English (Change Type of English Voice)
  7. Settings>General>Siri>Accessibility>VoiceOver>Languages & Dialects>Default Dialect>Voice Quality (Disable Enhanced Quality)
  8. Change settings 2-7 back to what they were. Siri's Enhanced voice will update (Over WIFI) within an hour of changing the settings back.
