Wading thru my buddy's edit suite. One of his G4s has FC 5 on it, the other has 4. The one with 5 has a wierd thing: Timecode does not zero.

For instance, I make a new sequence and it begins at 01:00:00, not at all zeros as it should.

I am a kibbutzing FCE guy and I can't figure out how to zero the Timecode... kinda a pain to keep subracting to get the actual number.

Thanks fer any insight

There is a Timeline Settings option - under both User Preferences ( Option-Q) and Sequence Settings ( Command-0) - that allows you to alter this.

Adjusting this in Sequence Settings, will do so for only that Sequence, while doing this in your User Preferences will set this for all sequences created from that point forward.

In the broadcast world, time code starts at a non zero number. 1 hour is the traditional program start. This allows for bars & tone + black + countdown leaders to run with the show beginning precisely at 1:00:00;00.

If you don't need the run up for leaders, black, bars and tone and such, you can change the settings in the USER PREFERENCES>TIMELINE OPTIONS tab.

cheerios,

Thanks guys!

Though for Studio X: I get what you're saying about the Broadcast preference; just wondering if this is a default setting with FCP. My buddy has three puters with three different FCPs on them (two V 4, one V 5) and only the V5 is set like this; perhaps a previous editor set it

Just curious

I'm not certain but I think 1:00:00;00 is the default setting.

If you are curious about this ...

With FCP not running, launch FCP Rescue and BACKUP your settings. (this will make a copy of your current preferences so any custom settings will not be lost.)
Now TRASH your preferences and Quit Rescue. (This deletes all your user and system preference files. They will be reset back to the system defaults when you start FCP the next time.)
Launch FCP and go check the time code start in timeline preferences. Does it start at 1 hour?

If you want to get back to your previous settings, quit out of FCP, open Rescue and click on the RESTORE button.

have fun.
