Files disappeared after File Copy to Network Drive!!! Finder very buggy... Sad.

Finder crashed drive a file drag and drop moved... 4 files were moved before Finder crashed, but another 4 disappeared.

I relaunched finder, continued to move files, out of 92 files, 88 were moved and 4 went missing!

I then tried copying the files manually, Finder shows that the file was succsfully copied (progress bar / ding sound) but then it immediately deletes the file?

I see other people were having this problems with older versions of OSX, I used to have it too with 10.6 and 10.7 but lately it's been stable.

In anycase, why are Finder file operations so buggy and why hasn't Apple done anything about it yet?

Maybe your hard drive is failing.

No it's definately not a hard drive issue as I am copying data to a redundancy RAID 5 array.

In fact, the files were copied by OSX then immediately deleted for some reason.

If you Google "OSX disappearing files after copy" it's a common issue with network drives.

Your internal hard drive is a RAID 5 Array?

Wait, where are the files disappearing from? The source or the destination?

What is the format of the drive you are copying to? If it is NTFS, what driver are you using to write with?

I am having the same problem. It just started a week ago. I'm a photographer. I would take a data card full of photos and copy them to a folder on my desktop. I always make sure the file volumes match after the transfer is complete. Then after I eject the compact flash drive, I check the file volume again on the desktop folder before I reformat the flash drive.

In this case when I went back 24 hours later the folders were emissing files or totally empty. I just lost two days of event shooting and I'm going to have some really ****** off customers if I can't retrieve the files. There are roughly 700 digital photo files that are just gone. I don't even know the exact file names because I delete some images as I shoot.

Is there any way to see if these files are still on the drive and just missing their file names?
