I have noticed this issue, in my opinion its because of the " Background app refresher " option and the "location tracker" ( Apple added this to track your movement !!!!!!). I disabled both of these two options

you can find them in settings

settings > general > background app refresher

setings > privacy > system services > you will find a bunch of stuff, turn off the one u don't need especially "frequent locations".....

and about the imessage cache , the problem is that I can not access the Raw File system , the hidden imessage cache is there.

feeback won't help, i had a feedback a year ago about the deleted contacts that show off in the imessage and they only fixed this issue just now with ios 7 .

Thanks Moe!

background app refresher now off.

the system services is in Settings > Cellular > at the bottom of the "use cellular data for" list you'll find the link to "system services". hit that and it's only a list with no options. But the stuff on the "use" list you can turn off stuff there.

You need to just innundate them with complaints or nothing will get done. With the tone of the forums today I think someone screwed the pooch on this upgrade and there's going to be a huge drop in sales if they don't fix this.

Looks like the moderators here delete threads that they don't approve of the tone or negativity too. Email alerts on one topic about rolling back to iOS 6 and when I click the link to view the thread it's gone. I get an error page.

The utter lack of privacy with these things has gotten way out of hand. I don't need a leash on me tracking everywhere and everything I do!

thank you for the app. It actually cleans all the apps cache in an easy way , it cleaned about 500 mb ( I usaully either delete and reinstall the app to clean the cache, or use iFunbox to go the app cache folder and empty it. like facebook, instagram ........)

But it can't access the iMesages cache. so i still have the 700 mb of the hidden data. User uploaded file

I didn't notice the messages, Moe. I'll have to take a look later on.

Right now I'm the phone with Apple because the new iOS is eating my battery at such a pace it's incredible. I'm not the only one with this issue either.

I now have an appt. at the store to see what can be done.

Please use the http://apple.com/feedback form to let Apple know that this iOS is unacceptable.

so after searching for a while , I found a solution for my question. i was be able to delete the entire 717 MB from my phone and from the icloud backup without jailbreak.

the solution is by deleting the imessage hidden cache from the itunes backup the restore ur iphone from this backup . here is how:

1- backup ur phone to itunes,

2- download and run a program called iBackupBot ( it allows u to explore itunes backup on ur computer).

3- while inside the program go to : iphone > system files > Mediadomain > Library > SMS > attachment ..... the folders inside the attachment folder are the pictures u have sent and recieved . so delete all of them.

4- go to itunes and restore ur iphone . "restore backup...".

5- after restoring ur phone, go to icloud and delete the iphone back up and make a new back up. this will remove the imessage cache from icloud too.

Moe,

You rock!! I had 6.8GB of Messages (Saved)!! I'm not sure if that's because I text so many photos or because I have been carrying all of my texts forward since my first iPhone. At any rate, I downloaded the software (free) and followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. One side note: before deleting the files, I selected all with click then shift-click on the last file and used the export tool in the software to export the photos to my PC. Looks like about every photo I've ever texted or had texted to me for several years. Kind of a fun thing to do if you have the time! Anyway, you are the ONLY person on any thread that had the real answer. Thank you sir.

Steve

Guys , you are welcome . I'm glad that my solution helped you.

Kitten ,

there is a free version of the program that you can use, i used it and its enough for me .

Steve,

7 GB !!!!!! how could u sleep the night with that amount of useless date eating ur memory. hahah, I bet Apple " retard bar " told u that you have to live with it, thats their usual answer. I'm glad that I helped you.

I think that imessage just save every attached msg. I don't forward messages, but I send and recieve pictures and its all there in the backup; I hope apple engineers put a " clear cache" button one day.

best regards.

Moe:

I am good all the way up to step 4, and 5.

4- go to itunes and restore ur iphone . "restore backup...".

5- after restoring ur phone, go to icloud and delete the iphone back up and make a new back up. this will remove the imessage cache from icloud too.

4 -- When I "restore backup" in iTunes, iTunes says that I do not have enough memory on my iPhone. I certaintly do...I have 4 GB free. I would have 6 GB free if I were able to delete these stupid pictures/videos saved in my messages.

5-- Does "go to iCloud" mean go to icloud.com, or some other path?

I am a Windows 7 user.

Thanks!
