pink hue on iPhone 5 screen after iOS 7?

I did not notice this before updating to iOS 7 this afternoon, but there is now a very visible and distracting pink color on 90% of my screen. The very outside 1/4 inch is normal. I'm not sure if this is a long time problem and only just discovered with all the stark white in iOS 7 or what. There is a thread on macrumors forums with a few others who have had the same problem. I made an appointment at the local Apple Store this evening and the genius said it was a "feature" of iOS 7, which is rediculous, but they stood their ground. There were only a couple other iPhones in the store that had iOS 7 and she said they all displayed the same purple/pink hue on screens with white backgrounds. I did see one other that had the same issue, the others were "in the back". The display iPhones still all had iOS 6 and I didn't see the pink tinge on them. It also doesn't show up on my wife's iP5 (still on iOS 6).
I just can't believe this is intential. Anyone else having this problem? Not sure what to do.

It is most prominant when viewing the screen at a slight angle, depending on the light in the room. Very distracting on web pages, calendar, notes, reminders, etc.

I'm happy that I am not the only one with a similar problem.

It isn't very serious and is in a smaller extend. I won't blame iOS 7 because it appeared many years after installing iOS 7.

I hoped that there is a software solution but I am afraid I have to change the screen. My iPhone was bought in 2012. So I don't think there is any warranty.

I have the iPhone 7 now and I use the iPhone 5 as a secondary phone.

At first iPhone 5 showed a problem with the power button. Apple has a replacement program for that but my phone serial number isn't. accepted by Apple.

Now the screen problem.

Also I have a problem with central button of iPhone 4 which doesn't always respond.

Nevertheless I am still an loyal iPhone user because the iPhone apps are the best. On the other hand the hardware isn't very reliable and the Apple support could be better.

Yeah, I posted there too.
I did contact Apple support online and they agreed it was a hardware problem and a replacement iPhone is on its way to me now.

Hopefully there is no issue with that one, and at the very least, Apple will have the problematic iPhone to look at and troubleshoot.

well, i got my replacement iPhone 5 in, and after updating it to iOS7, it does not have the screen problem. (unfortunately the bezel has more nicks in it out of the box than my previous year old one.)

anyway, if you are still in warranty, i suggest contacting Apple and getting your hardware replaced. it does seem odd that it only showed up after the iOS7 upgrade, but there are a lot more bright white backgrounds in iOS7 that really make it noticable. but the more problem screens Apple techs get to see returned, the better chance for a long term fix in future hardware.

i can't believe some other "genius" actually pulled that with you as well.

no. it is not a "feature." i contacted Apple support online, included a photo of the screen showing the problem, and they were very helpful and sent a replacement iPhone 5 out to me. both the replacement and my wife's iPhone 5 do not have the pink screen problem. it is most definitely a defective screen and don't stop contacting Apple until you get a replacement! (assuming you are still under warranty.)

I have the same issue, just sort of got around to seeing if its a real issue and found this thread.

Wish i'd looked earlier, i'll obviously now be stuck with a pink screen as i purchased in Oct 2012, so just out of warranty!

Really disapointed, you pay a premium for these devices and they don't really last, especially when the screen is a major selling point!!

Hey. Had the same problem myself. If you're in the uk, you in essence have a 6 year warranty based on this piece of EU consumer law. Apples website states it clearly:

http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

They agreed to replace screen for free despite me being well outside my 1 year 'apple' warranty. Phone also had a camera fault (pink or blue blocks, crashing etc) so they gave me a new handset in the end, again based on this piece of consumer law.

Hope that helps!

I noticed this issue on my out of warranty iPhone 5, too. For anyone curious, I decided to take a look at it under a microscope. I took a snapshot of the region near the edge and of the region that has the pinkish hue using the same camera settings and magnification. Then I spliced the two images together. The left side is from the edge region and the right half is from the pinkish area of the screen. You can best see the difference in the green and red.
