Q: Music not syncing after iOS 7 update

I updated to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 and less than half of my music is syncing to my phone. Any thoughts? I am already hating this update for more than one reason and this is adding icing to the cake...

iPhone 4, iOS 7

    I FIXED MINE!!!!

My music was not syncing for few weeks and I finally got it to work! Follow these easy steps.

It was the Apple app called REMOTE. After the iOS update, everytime I synced my iTunes with iPhone, there would be an error message saying the Remote app was missing (or unable to sync or whatever, I forgot).

I kept ignoring it but apparently it was stopping everything else from syncing (even though the message stopped appearing after a while).

So I finally started up the Remote app on my iPhone, entered on my iTunes the passcode it showed to sync them, restarted my iPhone, and then synced my iPhone with iTunes. Voila! iTunes now syncs music with my iPhone.

So I am guessing Apple's own app was responsible here.

Hope it works for you guys.

    Cheers.

I feel your pain...we just got 2 new iphone 5s and my husband and I were so excited to put music on them. When we went to use iTunes it was stuck updating content forever when syncing never ending until we cancelled the sync. We tried everything to fix it including upgrading our software. What did fix it is sync all music but uncheck movies and videos, then blam worked fast!!!!

From isource.com (this just worked for me):

    – Connect your iPhone to you computer.  If you do not have the Do not automatically synch device when plugged in box checked, immediately cancel any synch that starts.

    – Select your iPhone in iTunes, and check the box next to Manually Manage Music and Videos.  A brief synch process begins, let it go.

    – Then deselect Manually Manage Music and Videos. iTunes will warn you that this will wipe out the music on your phone and replace it with your iTunes library. Click okapply.

At this point you iTunes should start copying over everything that’s missing because it should wipe out the corrupt music indexes on your device and replacing them.

None of these techniques are working. Why is apple not addressing this issue?

Thank you for this! I can't believe I didn't try manually managing earlier, that used to always be my go-to but somehow I tried everything but that this time around... I left mine with manually managed checked, I'll let you know if it deletes the songs again after I uncheck it.

I still have no idea what the root issue was, none of my songs were corrupted (as far as I know, I checked several different ways and couldn't find any issues). Hopefully Apple is working to fix this, it's a huge pain in the arse.

Same problem with my iPhone 5 S.

I called the helpdesk from Apple. They didn't know the problem. Tell me to reset my iphone and don't do a reservecopy or icloudcopy. So i first try with the reservecopy but that didn't work. Then tried without it and it worked but i lost all my settings, my historie, my photo's etc and that's annoying. But i have al my music on my iPhone 5 S again.

Strange thing. Have a iPhone since 2007, never had this problem.

I've been having the same problem since the update but I just realised something and it fixed everything. I looked in my iTunes music library and some of my songs/albums had the "!" next to them.. they had somehow become unlinked. iTunes couldn't locate them.. they happened to be the same albums and artists that I was trying to sync to my iPhone 4s. I took the long route (just to be safe, you could probably just re-locate the files for iTunes but I didn't try it that way)

    1. Delete your entire iTunes Library

    2. Sync your phone and make sure there is now zero content in your iPhone library.

    3. Re-Import your entire iTunes Library

    4. Now iTunes properly locates ALL of the songs in your library.

    5. Select your Albums, Artists, and Songs as you normally would and sync.

I know this won't work for everyone, but like I said, this issue sprang up for me right after the iOS 7 update and have tried every fix on this thread and others.

I checked "manually manage music and videos" and it finally worked. This was extremely frustrating. If Apple doesn't start reviewing these boards and provide a solution to big problems like this, they are surely going to lose customers.

Thank you! Your insight helped me solve my syncing problem.

After checking manually manage music, I found there was still 102MB of audio on my iPhone. What worked for me, was to:

    1. Ensure that Manually Manage Music and Videos was checked
    2. Sync
    3. On my iOS device, go to Settings > General > Usage
    4. Wait for the Storage section to load, then tap to Music (you may have to first tap Show all Apps to find it)
    5. Tap Edit and then the delete icon for each entry listed until it reads No Data
    6. Uncheck Manually Manage Music and Videos and resync in iTunes

    Hope this helps someone.

    Dear All,

Whoever suggested a problem with Apple Remote deserves a Nobel Prize.

I followed the suggestions above opened Remote and obatined a code for my computer iTunes Library.

I restarted the phone and iTunes and the sync ran perfectly.

All music and audiobooks back on the phone- brilliant.

Sync working normallly again- so the is clearly a conflict introduced with IOS 7 to Apple Remote.

Good luck to everyone else trying to sort this irritating problem.

What seemed to work for me is that I went into the music tab on my phone in itunes and unchecked all the albums. I then synced again and it WORKED!

Wow! This fixed me and I had tried all the other fixes on here. I normally wifi sync so probably didn't even see the error, if it showed at all. I have the latest OS and iOS and was seriously about to throw my stuff out a window. I am pretty techy and knew it had to be a weird issue. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! REMOTE APP for those of you with multiple devices and use the remote.
