Q: Music not syncing after iOS 7 update

I updated to iOS7 on my iPhone 4 and less than half of my music is syncing to my phone. Any thoughts? I am already hating this update for more than one reason and this is adding icing to the cake...

Casper, I tried many of the solutions in this thread and the only one that worked for me was backing up, doing a full reset and then restoring from the backup and syncing. See my previous post from Jan 22nd.

Casper, regretfully a replacement iPad mini, set up as new (not recovered from backup), which was given to me by my local Apple store to resolve this issue did not fix the problem for me. After several hours of trying every which way and ending with this they sent me off with the replacement iPad and asked me to contact Apple Care, not to come back into the store -- they had nothing else to suggest.

if a new device that is not restored from a back up is also not working then that means that its not the device, its ur computer/itunes on said computer. u replaced ur device for nothing but to rule out that it wasnt ur device.

@zelous I'd think that too if it wasn't syncing up perfectly to my iOS7 iPhone 5 -- all the same playlists and songs!

It could still be some conflict within iOS7 and the iPad mini firmware.

I'm amongst those who suspect the problem may lie with iCloud. For a while I synced my iPad mini with iCloud, I no longer do. Many of my missing songs have a download from iCloud icon next to them -- and even though I no longer sync to the cloud, they will still often download from the cloud to my iPad, but disappear again -- songs which I ripped from my own CDs as well as many I bought from iTunes.

I solved this by clicking on the 'iPad' icon in itunes, in order to open the menu. Then click 'on this iPad', have a look under music for the CDs you're trying to put on and make sure that they aren't already on there. On mine, they didn't show on the iPad but they did in this menu. If they do, delete them and try again. Hope this helps!

So finally this solved the problem in my Ipad..

Back up to the itunes > Erase all data and reset the Ipad > Reload from back-up > Sync again from the library and it works.

    IDK.. Worked for me :/

I had the same issues. I think its stems from taking of the ipad/iphone from the cable to the mac while its syncing (or similar). Frustraiting to say the least. I read all apple support communities suggestions but they did not seem to work for me (or I did not understand how to do it).

I found a solution and now it works. I erased all content and settings on the Ipad. Then I restored it from the back up. Now it works fine.

So on the Ipad: General>Reset (at the bottom)>Erase all content and settings. Then plugged it back to the mac and itunes and it ask if you would like to restore from prevouis back up (or similar).

I also, as suggested by some other people, switched of 'pass code lock' and auto lock while doing this excersise.

I hope it works for you.

I tried many of your suggestions but nothing worked for my by now.

I don't know if it was mentioned earlier in this thread. I don't want to read all the +50 pages. But I found a way by accident that works at least for my iPhone 4s iOS 7.0.4: When I terminate all apps via the task manager (press home button twice and swipe all apps up) before I sync (by USB cable), then my music will be synced correctly. To check this  behavior today I kept one last app running and the sync showed the same old mistake not syncing my music. After I closed the last running app and synced again all worked fine.

Maybe this works for some of you.

I have had a similar issue and an open case since iOS7 was released on my Apple TV. The case is still not closed with Apple. But in the case of Apple TV you canot used iTunes match or even view/play your purchased music!

Just worked around the issue. I had 1 smart playlist that listed all my music videos. Nothing aplout the playlist looked odd. But as soon as I deleted it my Apple TV sync worked.

I was also recently having sinilar odd issues on my iPad, more like described n this thread even though my iPhone worked OK. That problme was also fixed.

I have the same exact issue! One thing that works is closing itunes and then doing a hard reset on my iPhone by holding down the power button and home button. Once it starts to reset, I plug the phone into my mac and then when the phone is completely powered on, iTunes automatically opens on its own and starts to sync. I dont touch the phone until the sync is complete, and next thing you know the music I just added on is in there now and in the playlists I loaded it in! I hope that works out for everyone!

Thank you, this worked for me.  My 'recently added' playsist finally updated.

I have had loads of problems, tried taking all the music off (not a problem) but then wouldn't go back on.

I have just been on the phone to apple, and have fixed it, and was trying to make mental notes so I can post on here.

    In iTunes, click View>show sidebar

    Connect iPhone

On the iPhone menu, uncheck all apart from 'manually manage music and vidoes'.

On the sidebar, on the iPhone, press the small arrow on the left.

Select 'music'.  You should either see nothing, or in my case, my entire library, but greyed out.

I then went back to my music library, selected one song, and dragged and dropped into the phone on the sidebar.

    Apply

    Sync

Then ALL my music went on with no problems (not just the one song I selected)

Perhaps if it doesn't work, select all your music (ctrl+A) then drag and drop onto the phone.

This is with an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4 and iTunes 11.1.4.62 on Windows Vista.

    GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the info!  I plan to give this one a try tonight.  I know there are several people here in the same situation but it is nice to come to a place where there are MANY suggestions. With this current issue, you don't know what will do the trick. I have found many an answer here in the past on other problems so here's hoping this one works

This didn't work for me but i think i know what the issue is on mine.  I have much of my music on an external hard drive that i plug in when ever i  update my iphone 4s, and this does transfer to my phone. The stuff that doesn't transfer to my phone are the cd's that i just import to my computer. I haven't tried this yet, but i'm going to transfer all my cd's on my comp to my external hard drive, then i will upload it to itunes from there and i will let you know if it works.  i figured i'd post what i found here first in case someone else has time to do this before i do.

I just found some interesting suggestions over on this Apple forum: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23766824#23766824

Not sure if they work yet or not but it could be worth reviewing...
