iTunes 11.1 won't download!

I currently have iTunes 10.6.3 and wanted to download the new iTunes 11.1, but the installer says I have to at least have version 10.6.8 in order to install 11.1. How do I get iTunes 10.6.8? My Macbook is five years old - don't know if that is the problem (Is Snow Leopard needed?).
