Q: iOS 7 defaulting to old iCloud email address and I can not remove it or reset

Hi, since up-dating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7, iCloud shows (greyed out) my old email address used for my Apple ID.

Becuase of the new 'Find My iPhone' feature I can not remove it or reset it. I'm asked for a password but of course that old password is not assocaited to an active account anymore.

I backed up to latest iTunes but again becuase of the new feature I am unable to reset and restore from back up my iPhone without that old inactive password. My old password will not work becuase I have a new iCloud / Apple ID email address.

I am also unable to sign in to iMessage using my Apple ID, keeps telling me to check my network connection, which is fine. I assume Apple servers just in major overdrive with downloads, or is the problem connected to my main issue above?

Anyone else getting the same problem? Anyone got a fix?

Thanks

Chris

My issue was exactly the same, old email, email account no longer exists, new password didn't work, I knew my old password and it didn't work, also it wouldn't authenticate my questions (failed at DoB)! but doing what I explained after a restore allowed me to turn-off "find my iphone" and delete the account, I think without a password, or if not, it accepted the current password associated with my "correct" account.

It would appear there's a bug with the find my iPhone lock down functionality not picking up a change in primary iCloud email address managed to delete my old account and verify again but still having problems. iPhone is now a step further ahead than the iPad at least. Will post if I manage to get anywhere before 7.1 is released...

    Yesterday I got the solution:

First accept the terms and conditions. (it will appear now, was a over helmet network problem).

Try as many times you can disable the "find my IPhone feature" yes with your current password.

You will see that now you are able to delete the Icloud.

Turn on again with the right e-mail.

    * In my case I also didn’t access to my old e-mail.

Good Luck! I hope that’s could helps !!!

Na, tried all that yesterday, didn't work for and from an Apple perspective, not ideal! Anyway, I'm still waiting on the promised call back from apple!

Sadley Apple Support people did not call me back within 24 hours with a fix or up-date as promised. Have to say, that is a poor show. Just a simple "sorry, we're still working on it for you" would have been suffice. Ho hum!

My solution has worked for a number of people now, your problem could be different.. also it seems that Apple changed something in the last 24 hours, it has been reported that the old email now accepts the new email password.

Recon you could be right becuase it still fails for me! Even if i click Messages in Settings and enter my live Apple ID and password - all I get is a message "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again". Needless to say, nothing wrong with my network connection, I'm using it right now. But everything is fine on my iPad to it's just my iPhone 5 giving me a headache. Cheers for the feedback SteelyP

Alright I had the same problem and apple told me to call iTunes which would have taken days so I figured out a quick fix for mine at least. The problem was that my old email address was still being used as my Apple ID for iCloud and nothing else (iTunes, App Store, Game Center, etc.) So all I did was changed my Apple ID back to my old email address which allowed iCloud to verify it, after I received a confirmation email to my old email address. Then I was able to access all of the options that had been frozen under the iCloud settings menu because my verification had been pending but was now confirmed. From there, I switched everything to my new email address because I had gained access to the iCloud page to do so. To change your Apple ID just requires a couple security questions but is relatively quick and easy.

    Best of luck!

Did you ever get a fix? I'm still stuck with my old, inactivated email as the icloud account on my ipad...I'm stuck!

Same problem-old inactivated email showing up on iphone5 for the cloud. iPad is fine. Called Apple who told me to reset the phone. Did it & it didn't work. Has anyone found another work around to fix this?

Woohoo, I just got mine sorted. Same problem as above, iCloud linked to old e-mail address and would not delete (iPhone 4 updated to ios 7 (7.0 11A465) on 22/9). First thing I did was slid the 'Find my iPhone' to off and entered my current password. This did turn it off. I then kept getting a message to sign in to iCloud which I ignorred (pressed cancel). Then was able to delete the account. Went back and signed in with current iTunes e-mail address and all sorted. Hope this helps!

    Cheers

    HEY YO!

They finally fixed it. As Greg stated, you just need to put in your CURRENT password to your new email associated with iCloud. It finally accepted my new password and allowed me to delete the old email. I dunno about the process of order, but before I was just trying to delete the account and this time I slide the Turn off Find my Ipad slider and then it allowed me to delete it.

Hope this works for everyone else! Finally!

    Thanks,

    Sean
