Q: My ipad VIDEOS app doesn't show the movie Names with IOS 7

I just upgraded to IOS 7.  The Apple VIDEOS app no longer displays the file name for videos that don't have album art.  I have to tap on each video screen shot (which is typically meaningless) to bring up the info/play screen to see the movie's "Name".  Under IOS 6.1.4 (and prior versions) the VIDEOS app displayed the .mp4 file name underneath all videos without album art.

Is there an option to set to get the "Name" displayed on the VIDEOS main screen, or get a LIST view rather than an icon view, using IOS 7? (I have not found one)

Since most of my movies do not have album art this makes the VIDEOS app virtually useless.

Bill, I think you misunderstand what I was saying. I didn't say the TV Shows category doesn't appear in the Videos app, it does, but the grid listing of the shows in it do not include the title of the show from iTunes, unless it's a show purchased from the iTunes Store (and therefore has official artwork included that includes the show/series name).

The Videos app has always worked like this with TV shows, but Movies used to be different, they always showed their iTunes titles in the grid listing. But with the iOS 7 version of the Videos app now Movies also do not display the title info from iTunes when listed. Now only the Home Videos category displays the titles of the movies in the Videos app. That's what I was talking about.

As has been noted, there is no longer any textual depiction of the names of movies, within a home shared library, on the iPad. There is another option for those who manage their video library on a Mac and share by way of home sharing. In iTunes, on you serving Mac, select and start to play a movie. Somewhere during the first couple of minutes (usually, but there are exceptions, such as The Tree of Life in which the title isn't presented until mid-credits at the end), the name of the movie will be displayed. Fast forward to this point if you wish. Pause the playback. Within the frame presenting the movie, Control - Click to bring down the contextual menu. The bottom choice is Set Poster Frame. The Poster frame is the frame of the movie that is shown in the iPad video list. However, there may be a better way, especially if the title graphice is small. Again, reach the title frame and pause, but this time take a screen shot (Command-Shift-4). Get Info for the movie at hand, and proceed to the Artwork tab. Drag the screen shot into the artwork space, and there you have your title image for the iPad.

Many cannot understand how Apple seems to screw up these things that are so essential to smooth use. I highly suspect that Apple's Product managers are engineers, within an engineering group. Truly effective product management is a marketing function - it is the marketing folk, those closer to the consumers, who should be writing the commercial specifications for these product, which includes user interfaces and product functrionality. Too many people think of marketing as sales. Marketing involves product concept, superficial design, cost parameters, and much much more before the engineers get to do their magic of making the product that marketing has defined as what the marketplace wants.

Ah, Brian.  You and I are cut from the same cloth!  And I assume we've fought the same marketing :vs: manufacturing battles as well!  Luckily (unlike the products I worked on), relief is (or can be) just a download away!

    You're correct.

TOO many changes - and you're correct - I don't see the TV listings as it used to be.

    Apple? What gives?

The Simplest Answer is use The Moli Player App or, another player similar to it from The App Store. Delete your Videos from Ipad's Player and, put them in Moli Player's Folder and Presto! (It's also a Better Player.)

This is not simply an issue of videos contained on the iPad. I have none. I have, however, about 300 movies from my DVD and DVR collection in iTunes on a Mac that I use as a media server here at home. Mostly, I play them through one of my AppleTVs (via Home Sharing), but, from time-to-time, I wish to view one on the iPad, and the lack of titles makes selection more difficult than it should be.

Ditto for me, I use Home Sharing from iTunes to both Apple TV (which doesn't suffer from this  titles nonsense) and my iPad (which does).

Home Sharing is a great feature, why do Apple insist on crippling it like this? It works brilliantly with ATV, but it's a PITA to use with iOS devices because of stupid limitations in the Videos app.

yes this works`!  Just moved twenty videos, one of which was a home video!  Careless programming -- more like what we get from Microsoft.

I just loaded it and Appled did NOT fix the video app.  The titles are STILL missing.

    Maybe they don't think it's a bug ...

I'm an unfamiliar with Apple support, do they have a way to submit an official "bug report"?

FYI.  I have resorted to setting up a WD my book live NAS drive. It is a 2 Terabyte drive that you just plug in into your Ethernet network. It has a gigabit interface. The only problem I had was the ipad video app WD supplies requires uPnP.  My time capsule does not support uPnP for security reasons. I did find another video ipad app that works fine. So I have one standard WD my book 2terabyte drive with my 1,300 movies  connected to my Mac mini with iTunes running Home Share serving movies to our 4 AppleTVs and this new WD my book live NAS with a second copy of my 1,300 movies serving out movies to our two ipads.  The ipad video app that workers with the WD my book live NAS is called "Moliplayer HD" . The WD my book live NAS costs about $130.00 . can

What idiot developers thought users would actually not want to see title names?

You All are making it Way Too Hard on Yourselves! Get Moli Player at app store (free version works as well)

Put all your Videos in That Player's Folder Instead of  Ipad's Folder and You're Done!

All 200 of my Videos have Names on them.

If you wait for Apple to Fix it You'll be in Slobbering in Diapers by Then!

I upgraded to 7.0.3 today and also saw no change.  The bug is still there.

I did find one video player in the App Store that allowed access to the iTunes Video/Audio downloads.  It provided a nice list view so the artwork wasn't an issue.  My only complaint was that it intermixed video and audio and I couldn't find a way to filter to show just one or the other.

What is the name of the video player app that allows access to the itunes video?

I want a video player that works with "Home Sharing". Then my 4 AppleTVs and my two iPad are looking a the same videos.

I am using an app called Moli Player and it workes to view videos in a WD My Book Live NAS drive I setup with a second set of my Videos.
