Nov 14, 2013 4:09 AM in response to MiataMike1by reddessy69,HI all this is an easy fix, for all copied & or DIY vids you created, but didnt purchase.
First remove all videos from the ipad, then go to itunes where videos should all be there unless removed, then put them back. select all vids in your itunes libaray, by right clicking and drag all to select all.
Then right click on one video, a warning about editing will come up, just ignore it and proceed forward. when you right click a drop down box appears that says "get info" select & change the setting to "Home Videos" waiting for change depends on how many vids you want to convert to home vids. when done repaste all vids to ipad in one shot by going to movies tab in itunes, syncing movies thru itunes to ipad...........wallah job done. The " films" heading title will disapear & youll be left with two final titles that say, "music Videos & home Videos", but most importantly youll see all titles again. may need to upgarde software to do this, but not sure.
Best past you dont have to individually change each vid to home movies, like i said select all and change to Home Movies. good luck.

Nov 14, 2013 4:22 AM in response to reddessy69by workingcars,That is NOT a solution, not when you have a big library, i want to be able to see what i have, and mixing all my home videos in with my movies is just not a good answer...!!!
Apple needs to sort this out and deal with it, even an option for LIST in the iPad would be better than what we currently have...!!!
But all these workarounds, all these renaming, reclassifying are really pathetic...
And so you understand, a MOVIE is a MOVIE, a HOME MOVIE is a HOME MOVIE, why make people change what they are so they can see what they are...
Pull your finger out apple, you are seriously upsetting me with this...!!!

Nov 16, 2013 1:41 PM in response to workingcarsby a_user_name,Since the iOS 7 update I find myself using my Android tablet for videos. I never used to have a reason to use it much in the past. Android clearly has a much better solution to view movies now. The file names are easily displayed. I can't imagine how Apple QA or an Apple developer could believe this new movie feature is an improvement.

Nov 16, 2013 2:10 PM in response to MiataMike1by MiataMike1,I suspect Apple's view is that "Movies" should ONLY be purchased through the iTunes store (which will ALWAYS have the artwork). Anything else is a "Home Video" and is appropriately displayed with a name caption. I don't agree with this point of view but I'm not the King of Apple Development so I don't get much say in the decision.
However, in Home Sharing, the "Movies" and "Home Videos" are displayed together with no name caption. There is no rational explanation for this behavior other than it is a "bug" as the "Home Videos" can't be deciphered unless you actually click on the video. To me, this would be a "must fix" but again, I am not the King of Apple ...

Nov 16, 2013 4:51 PM in response to MiataMike1by David Shanahan,Possibly. But there's the fact that Apple TV does this all perfectly, for both purchased and side-loaded videos from whatever source, it's only an issue for iOS devices using the Videos app.
I know that many TV networks and studios have had a weird obsession with trying to limit what devices viewers can watch internet streamed or DVR'd shows on -- they don't seem to like the idea of their content being viewed on PCs or tablets for some bizarre reason but are more relaxed about their shows being viewed on an actual TV irrespective of the source of the program. Maybe the Videos app's behaviour is some sort of sop to this mindset, I dunno.
An interesting point is that when you have lots of TV Shows and/or Movies in iTunes that you access on the iPad via Home Sharing it can take quite a bit of time for the grid view to fill out with the thumbnails for all the videos when it first connects to iTunes. While that's happening the videos are initially shown as generic rectangular icons with a outline TV screen in the centre of each one, and under each is the title of the movie/TV show/series as stored in iTunes! I find that if I'm fast enough I can scan & scroll down through all the generic icons and find the one I'm after before it gets clobbered by the approaching wave of thumbnails. The Videos app can and does read the title info from iTunes, it just chooses not to display that information once it has a thumbnail image available.

Nov 17, 2013 1:16 PM in response to MiataMike1by fbergess,All,
I just restored to my new iPAD air.
All of my videos are present in iTunes (48 of them)
but NONE of them show up in Video on the iPad Air?
How do I find/view my videos (which worked fine on my iPAD 2)
Thanks

Nov 17, 2013 3:17 PM in response to MiataMike1by WymJames,Ditto on the general frustration.
I use iFlicks to populate my movie and TV shows metadata and cover art so they look and act like they were purchased from iTunes.
Still *****, though, because streaming to my iPhone or iPad rarely works properly. Usually cuts out after a dew minutes and requires a reboot to start again.

Nov 17, 2013 3:30 PM in response to fbergessby David Shanahan,You restored the Air from an iTunes backup of your iPad 2? Sync your Air with iTunes. The videos aren't kept in the backups, they (like music, podcasts, etc.) are in iTunes and have to be synced with the iPad to be copied across to it.

Nov 23, 2013 1:32 PM in response to MiataMike1by wolfredic,The current behaviour of the video app is a problem, since there are side effects and none of the supposed solutions work. Chapter markers are not working anymore for "home videos". Thus you have to move your files to "movies" section. But as a movie, you don't see the file name anymore.

Nov 24, 2013 2:19 AM in response to MiataMike1by Loosecid,Videos on ios 7 is THE worst update I have ever seen as far as apps go! YES, worse than every iteration of Skype after Microsoft took it over!
Not only is it impossible to tell what is really living in your ipad due to flawed interface feedback in-app AND settings.
It crashes every time you try to remove a video.
Rentals stay there uselessly after they expire.
Swipe functions like " delete " ARE not obvious!
It can't handle playback while it downloads!
I mean come on! At least give us the option to use the old version !
Seriously! Who designed this? The same guy who designed the map app?
