Q: no airdrop/airplay on iphone 4s w/ iOS 7

Hi,

I updated my iphone today and i can't find a way to enable the airdop/airplay feature.

just to make myself clearer - I know that it should be in the "control center", but it's not there. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Nir

Thanks but no luck still. No airplay in control center at all. Cycled phone power. Apple TV and iHome device on the network but I can't see them.

Why oh why isn't Airdrop available on the 4s or earlier iOS devices?  WiFi works, Bluetooth works, so why can't Apple figure this out?  If I have other apps that let me transfer files through the air it makes no sense that AirDrop can't work.

AirDrop requires a WiFi chip that can create an ad hoc network. The 4S doesn't have that.

    Possible solution

Baffled me for hours then tried this...

...Try swiching your wifi router off then on again, now airplay works on all devices MacBook, iPhone, iPad & apple TV.

By the way Air Drop is for later devices like iPhone 4s, 5, 5c & 5s, plus later models of iPad.

AirDrop is not available on the iPhone 4S, only the 5, 5C and 5S. it's only availble on the iPad 4 and the Mini.

SIMPLE ....if you have an iPhone 4S like me and couldn't get airplay symbol to come up on control panel when swiping up from bottom just turn off your wifi modem ( BT etc )and then back on whilst phone on when it reconnects give it a minute then swipe up again and the icon will appear in a thin strip above the 4 icons for torch calculator etc . I had to do this when they last updated ! Hope this helps cheers

When playing music, don't look for the AirPay icon, for it belongs now to the Control panel, up from home button.

Make sure that home sharing is enabled in your iphone. I went to settings-music and entered my home sharing password and finally found the airplay option in my 4s! Hope that helps.

    Dear all

Have read thru all of the responses. Have recently upated to ios7 on my iPAD, Airplay icon keeps disappearing. Have tried rebooting the device as well as router. Apple TV has been set to airplay. In short, have tried most suggestions stated herein and am grateful for them, yet without success. Guess i should take the device to the apple store ? It is extremely disappointing. Am regretting updating to ios 7.

Any other suggestions / recommendations ? Is there absolutely no other way to access the airplay icon apart from the 'bottom sweep' ?

I also found this problem on my iPhone 4S with iOS 7.1.1. The blogger "iPhone J.D." found a disccusions Thread that suggested going to Settings > General > International > Language. Then change your language from whatever you're using (e.g. English) to another language (e.g. French). Then switch it back to your original language. This briefly worked for me causing AirPlay to briefly appear in my Control Center. It has now vanished again.
