Can't turn off Find My IPhone

After installing iOS 7 on my iPhone 4, my phone did not show up in the Find My iPhone app. I tried to delete my iCloud account from the phone but was not able to until I turned off Find My iPhone in the iCloud settings.

I entered my password and the phone displayed "Turning Off Find My IPhone…" and has been stuck there for over 30 minutes.

Everything else seems to work fine, I just can't turn off Find My iPhone (and can't restore the phone as a result).

Any ideas? Thanks.

I have a similar problem, after upgrading to iOS7 yesterday my phone ran out of battery. I charged it and turned it on now my phone doesn't connect to the phone network. I tried to restore my phone with iTunes but it's requesting me to turn off Find my iPhone. When I put the password it accepts it but it doesn't turn of and it tells me to try again.

Then I try to restore and erase and it's doing the same thing a with Find my iPhone.

My problem is that I cannot put it in DFU mode because my power button is not working!!

Any ideas anybody?

When you say it doesn't connect to the network... is it saying waiting for activation or is it just searching for signal? When you try to turn off find my iPhone, are you going through settings -> icloud -> find my iPhone?

With the issue of it not being able to connect to the phone network, a couple of things to try are similar to what I posted above, but first I would got settings -> general -> reset network settings

If that doesn't fix it then go to settings -> general -> reset all settings

After that if still no go, try connecting to WiFi (if it is saying waiting for activation) and just wait a few. This process is what I actually had to do to help a friend. Not sure if it will be the same.... but it's a start since you can't do DFU mode.

It is very strange.

It doesn't recognize if a sim us in or not. When I take the sim out it doesn't say that the is no sim. I tried resetting network and it does reset but once it logs in it just stays searching. It never prompts for the sim pin.

When I try to restore and delete it just says that it wasn't possible because there is a problem logging out from Find my iPhone. I'm starting to think this is an iOS 7 bug. I don't see any other explanation. The annoying thing is that I cannot put my phone in DFU because of the power button not working. The only thing I can thing if is trying to downgrade the phone to iOS 6 but not sure if it will let me.

If you have any other ideas I will highly appreciate it.

Cheers

To downgrade you would hold shift and click restore iPhone. I just tested it on my device, however, and it requests to disable find my iPhone. You could call AppleCare as they are helping everyone with iOS 7 issues even if you are out of warranty... I have a risky suggestion... If you plug in an iPhone when it is dead then the iPhone comes back on... So theoretically you could let it die and when you go to plug it up to to computer to "charge" you could hold down the home button while plugging it up... Keep holding it down until you see the connect to iTunes on the phone... iTunes should see your phone in recovery mode.... And you could restore... Of course this is just a theory... Not sure if it will work...

I am having this same issue. Except my phone couldnt connect to the network after plugging my phone up to the new itunes. After spending 45 minutes on the phone with and AT&T rep they finally told me it was a bad sim card. I went to the AT&T store where they told me it was an Apple issue. They told me my sim card was fine and was working and that it must be a bug with the new operating system. I just read the post on how to delete my phone from Find my Iphone and I was able to delete my phone from the account and was finally able to turn the Find My Iphone switch off from my device. I then was able to completely restore my phone to the factory settings but is still saying that it is "searching" and the AT&T rep told me that unless it says "AT&T" or "No Service" its not going to work with my sim card. This has been the biggest pain and I've already spent several hours trying to figure everything out. I'm going to call Apple and hopefully they can figure this mess out.

I was able to get it to restore it in recovery mode yesterday after trying it several times in the past few days. It started working perfectly and was exactly as it was. But unfortunately, today it started doing the same thing where it was constantly searching for service so now I'm in the process of trying to get it to restore it and the recovery process isn't working again. I've spent way too much time dealing with this and I have never had this problem with any iphone until this recent upgrade. I wish I would have known it was going to be this much trouble before I downloaded it along with all of it's bugs.

If you cant turn off via the icloud menu under settings mneu & youve tried all the resets/suggestions on here then you have no choice but to wipe your phone to factory settings via recovery mode & do as below.

Make sure your phone is synced upto date to your options & apps all tally up with itunes & your phone.

Make sure you iphone is backed up to icloud (as couldnt restore via computer that i could find) & your libary etc is fully up to date so when you re-sync you dont loose any of your items.

Download the latest IOS in the usual way ONLY BUT DONT install

Then plug into the usb end into your computer BUT NOT PLUG INTO THE CHARGER PORT

Turn off you iphone int the usual way

Hold down the home button & KEEP HOLDING whilst plugging in charger end

Wait untill the itunes, globe & charger pic is displayed

After a few secs your computer should show a message that your iphone has been dectected in recovery mode

Ok this message & ok erase & update next message

Let itunes do the erase

Once done & phone is wiped DONT TOUCH OR CLICK ANYTHING ELSE ON ITUNES & DO THE FOLLOWING ON YOUR IPHONE NOT ITUNES

Unlock & follow intsructions

Chose set up as a new phone ONLY & set upicloud/itiunes -log in with your passwords when prombted

Once phone goes bck to home screen go to settings, icloud,go down to find my iphone & flick to off. Enter password when prombted & should turn of with a conformation tick

Go bck to itunes & should b displayed congratulations you phone has been erased or something to that effect

Ok that & should b a option to set up as a new phone or restore

Restore from your icloud bck up (this was where im not sure if theres an option to do from computer bck up or not, I just did as icloud but there may b a way round it)

Let itunes do the restore

Wait for itunes to go bck to the orig iphone connected screen

Got to your phone & set up icloud/itunes with your account etc as per steps your phone displays. This should re-set up your imessage, face time & find your iphone as a new setup/new user etc. Keep following until you get bck to your home screen with no messages.

Go to settings, icloud, find my iphone & your should now b able to turn off as per your should b4 wiping - hurrah 😉

Job Done!!

Now to restore-sync- put all your stuff bck on 😉

B4 syncying make sure the sync options are clicked for your prefrences - if youve done correctly b4 starting this process you shouldnt have to do this step!! 😉

Sync & re-install all your stuff & let itunes do it stuff

Now its up to you if you turn find your iphone bck on via the settings/icloud option. If you do see below

Give it a few mins for your iphone to go bck onto the icloud server (this is where i swore at it as thought id wasted my time & not sure exac what happened here but on intial try it wouldnt let me do/same message prior to wipe but then second attempt it suddenly worked!! I had also loaded the app as well so you may have to do that also!! this was my stetchy step by step section!!! 😉 If doesnt work keep trying & should work as it should. Do as phone asks/enter password if prombted.

Now your done & all should b all working as it should & all your stuff bck where it belongs

This process is the only way if youve tried all the other options as detailed on other threads on here

Ive done myself so i know it works

Thanks apple for making us have to ponse around doing this cause your software updates mess our phones up

I also learnt my probs where casue i updated my phone via the software update via my phones settings but had no probs with updating my phone via intunes on my computer downloading it. Especially ios7.02 as may my probs worse doing via my phone via itunes not probs at all.

Hope this helps people that have experinced this find my iphone prob & the imeesage/facetime waiting for activation as these were the probs i had & now fixed doing the above.
