Oct 30, 2013 2:12 PM in response to KiltedTimby mad1at35,As I said previously several times, and I shall say it again by shouting o remove ambiguity, IT HAS BEEN UPTO THE CARRIER TO ENABLE OR DISABLE THE TOGGLE IN THE CARRIER.PLIST FILE - PART OF THE CARRIER BUNDLE.
But , as I also said previously, Apple online support told me that the iphone 5s does not have the option to disable 3G (irrespecetive of carrier). If you don't believe me then ask them yourself!
Or perhaps they don't know what they're talking about.
Anyway enough of switches!
If you are o2 use the TU Go app.
It's not too bad and you can run the phone with the cellular radios off, just leave wifi on and still get calls and texts.
And Vodafone do a hardware solution called Sure Signal (but it costs) for weak signal areas, and it provides a 3g hotspot in your home.

Oct 30, 2013 2:15 PM in response to mad1at35by mad1at35,Frm the iphonewiki
<key>Show3GSwitch</key>
<false/>
Hides 3G switch and forces UMTS to be enabled (for carriers with no 2G network, e.g. Hutchison (3) UK, SoftBank JP).

Nov 1, 2013 8:59 AM in response to Nelutuby OniNemesis,There are no solutions guys.In my country the 4G is just arrived and it is not all covered yet(only few areas are covered) , the 2G will be there for maybe other 3/4 yers and in this time maybe(I hope) the 3G will be use less energy or the battery become powerfull....until that the iPhone for US is useless...The carriers don't care about us and Apple don't want do nothing.
I have this problem from iOS6 and nothing changed. Now the iPhone 5 don't reach the end of the day so I don't care how much is good....a good telephone shutted down is useless.
If you need this toggle like me you have only 2 choise....The first is change the Smartphone. The second to modificate the system as your own risk....i chose the first one.Just ordered the new Nexus 5 after all those years with apple...I used the 3G,3Gs,4,4s and 5.....and i MUST change cause a simple but usefull toggle.
I hope Apple engigners read this message and learn how a simple thing could make them lose a buyer(and not only me...in my area all my parents and friend will change for another smartphone only for a stupid reason like this).I'm so sad because I love the iPhone with my Macbook and iPad and all apple stuff
P.S.
I will look at this discussion...if maybe something change I'll come back to use it...I'll prey for you guys

Nov 3, 2013 7:19 AM in response to Nelutuby mad1at35,UPDATE: I discovered something interesting today.
I had to return my iphone 5s as it had developed an unrevoverable hardware fault
This is the first faulty iphone we've had in the family (I've had 7 iphones alone over the years) so I suppose I was due one, and I bought new v1.0 64bit hardware on Day 1 - silly me LOL!
Anyway Apple Store promptly swapped it and when I upgraded from 7.0 to 7.03 it flashed up a carrier settings update. This is the one that lets O2 support 4G.
I declined that and checked in he settings. The 3G toggle was still there! And no 4G toggle.
So Apple tech support seem to have been incorrect, upto a point at least. Without 4G support in the carrier bundle, and the 4G toggle, you can have the 3G toggle it seems.
So for now now carrier updates for me!!!!

Dec 7, 2013 5:14 AM in response to Nelutuby zuhairalavi,But how are we gonna change the plist without jailbreak. Please can you share a link if we can...
-
Dec 7, 2013 10:12 AM in response to zuhairalaviby iPat11,No need to jailbreak. Back up your phone on iTunes. Disable "use cellular data" to settings. Reset it to factory settings. DON'T accept any carrier settings updates and restore your backup. The 3G switch should be back. Do this IF you can't wait for the next carrier settings update. Most carriers will sooner or later fix this, mine did and guess what? Battery life is perfect now, like it never was since I bought my iPhone 5 (May 2013).

Dec 7, 2013 1:47 PM in response to iPat11by todzurwelt,Hello.
A good thing to specify is that this method will maybe work for iphone 4/4s or 5. For iphone 5s you have no chance, only to wait for your carrier to change it.

Dec 8, 2013 3:09 PM in response to iPat11by OniNemesis,Don't works on all iPhones iPhone 5 restored to factory setting with itunes...I have also set up it as NEW DEVICE and...nothing changed....the carrier is just updated to the last version. How I can COMPLETELY restore my device and delete this f***king problem?
-
Dec 8, 2013 5:54 PM in response to OniNemesisby iPat11,Did you switch off "settings" under "cellular data"? This would prevent automatic carrier settings updates.
-
Dec 8, 2013 6:11 PM in response to iPat11by OniNemesis,Yes but after the restore the cellular data is actived and updated!
I do this:
1)backup iPhone on itunes 2) Go in setting, cellular and switch off the first toggle "cellular data" 3)on itunes i click on "restore iphone" 4) When the iphone is restored and show che classic "hello" message and other things to start, the cellular data is still active and if i go on in the settings (also without restore the backup) the carrier version is still updated to the last...

Dec 8, 2013 6:26 PM in response to OniNemesisby iPat11,It"s not the cellular data switch. Go till the end of the cellular data screen and you will see a series of switches under " use celllular data for" . The first one is " settings". Turn it off. I'm Brazilian and my iPhone is in Portuguese but I guess you will find it! The second switch is Appstore and all apps you have, safari, weather and so on.

Dec 8, 2013 8:58 PM in response to todzurweltby zuhairalavi,Just for your info, i have a 5s and the above worked for me... i think its the "Cellular Data Turn Off" thing that helps here, regardless of what device you are working on.
