Q: iOS 7 - 3G toggle for iPhone 5

Hi,

I have a problem with my iPhone 5 - locked on Orange Romania.

Since the last iOS update (6 to 7) - I cannot switch off the 3G connection anymore. Instead, I have a 4G toggle that is completely useless - because 4G in my area is pure fiction.

My problem with the 3G toggle is that I really need it! In my office I have one bar for the 3G signal and I have many dropped calls.

First question: can I have my 3G toggle back?

Second question: who decides if the 3G toggle is available or not in the carrier bundle, Apple or the carrier itself?

Thank you!

PS: My carrier says that Apple decides what is available in the carrier bundle.

Easy gals and guys, we're all here to try to solve problems. Remember a young bearded lad in his garage with his young bearded pal? The two Steves? Jobs and Wozniak? I miss those times, although I was only a child, that spirit can never die.

I think we must stop the discussion now, because as per Meg this can be resolved "only" by carrier. Though we were able to resolve the issue without the carrier's help!!!

    Hi there,

I have the same problem in France with my iphone 5C with carrier bundle SFR 16.0

I tried the solution of iPat11 but unfortunately it didn't work :

disable all toggles under "use cellular data for" on the bottom of the "cellular" screen but DON'T disable the cellular data toggle (the first one on the "cellular" screen) and DON'T disable the 4G toggle (second one). Backup, restore to factory settings, restore from backup and DON'T accept any carrier settings updates.

Few questions if you're still here :

Before backup : should I toggle wifi off ? Can the carrier bundle go through wifi ?

Backup and restore : do you suggest iTunes or iCloud ?

Is there another way to downgrade the carrier bundle ? I didn't understand what you suggested :

contact your carrier and ask them to "reset" your phone account, tell them you can't make any phone calls (even if this is not true)

Do you mean that the carrier could send an old carrier for only one person ?

    Thanks

Hello aderagne, let me see if I understood your doubts...

    1) I have an iPhone 5, so I'm not sure this solution works for 5C.

    2) You should toggle wifi off but preferably disable your wifi network or go to a place without any wifi networks available because after restore the default state will be wifi on.

    3) I suggest back up and restore via iTunes, just because I never tested it via i Cloud.

    4) I don't know if there is another way to downgrade the carrier bundle.

    5) By reseting your phone account I meant that the carrier support is able to check if there is something going wrong in the status of your phone line and they can try to fix it by resetting your SIM card register. I don't think they are able to downgrade your carrier settings but after restoring from backup and not allowing new updates you may have the "default" status wichi is the 3G toggle, but again, this is not ensured to happen with 5C.

    6) Finally, I think carriers are constantly updating their settings trying to fix this and other problems related to software adjustments, so you may have your problem solved by doing exactly the opposite: letting your carrier update their settings to a new version that might work better for your phone/area.

    Hope it helps,

    Cheers,

I solved my problem, but it's not very neat : i've jb my iPhone iOS 7.1.1 and I installed an old tweak called "Auto3G", apparently not compatible ios7, but which can mysteriously cut 3G when the phone is locked or connected to wifi (the phone displays "GPRS" or "E" and the battery lasts much longer, almost 2 times more in my case!)

I am also having same problem, There is no 3G/2G Toggle in iOS8, This is irritating my iPhone5's battery is draining within 3-4 hours.

Apple needs to solve this asap or people will start switching from iPhones.

Given the rate at which they sell them, it seems unlikely. You can submit your feedback to Apple here:
