I guess I must be in the minority here, but I don't have a problem with the new OS.  I turned on Bold Text and it is easy to read, and the colors Apple chose to use don't bother me.  I actually find them kind of refreshing.

In this thread? Yes, you're in a minority. In the larger world of iOS users, probably not. I've yet to personally meet anyone who hated it. Yeah, some folks are neutral, like the 92 year old man I helped with his update. But in my iPhone infested real life, I've never met anyone who expressed the kind of vitriol toward it that I've seen in this thread.

That's interesting. It's the opposite for me. But then, my circle consists of artists: Fisher Price icons just don't cut it with this crowd, much less the stickman-like interface inside the apps. Alas, some love Picasso, other's don't. But I can't help but feel Apple expected a portion of their users to grimace—how could they not—by flattening graphics, removing shadows, icons, colors, gradients, etc. and presenting the user with a basically a white page with text. This appeals to others as "refreshing", even though it really is a large step back to the first color Palm phone interface.

I think it varies across the board, marysplacestudio (love the name!! Springsteen?).  Some of the more "fervent" mods here state that they have never met a person who didn't like it (and some even deemed "brilliant"), while others have seen nothing but distaste for the change.  From my casual (by no means scientific) asking of about people around me with iDevices, 4 loved it, 7 hated it, and the balance were basically "meh, whatever."

Like Hotspur said, it's all a matter of personal preference.  (BTW, Hotspur, you stated the "most of your friends" liked it.  Were there some who didn't or were just lukewarm?)

I haven't met anyone who expressed dislike, but yes some were lukewarm. My wife for example who is a very visually oriented person looked at it and said "Oh, they changed some stuff." and she was immediately on to whatever task she needed to do.

Thanks Hotspur, nice to know.  I imagine that your wife's reaction is indicative of the mostly general response regarding the update.  A googlefights survey showed it about 75-80% v 20-25% in favor so I'm always wary when people who say "everyone they know" or "no one they know," lol (not that you did! :-) ).  It's good to know that there's some spread among the enthusiasm levels out there.

I didn't hear anyone in the office complain about iOS 7 either, until today. By chance, two guys were chatting near my desk, and one said that because of iOS 7, he was going to throw away his iPhone and get something different. That's more severe than anything I've read here.

That is extreme to hear in person, Kenneth!  I've read a few people threatening that in here, but wasn't sure it was because of personal distaste or in response to other posts.  Several mods have the POV of "It's here. Just download it and get used to it" (which most people will have to do), but that doesn't win them any points, lol.  If I had installed it, I would have had to deal with it for another year until my contract expired.  Thanks for participating!

Sorry BTW, that was my mistake, I was shorthanding "by the way" as "btw" and didnt even stop to consider that that was your handle, too.  My bad, not your typo

But on that, can i ask what the general age range is for your friends that don't like it?  Some mention that it feels like the new ios was designed for tweens and teens, but the casual poll I took in my workplace was about 25 people between 22 and 50.  Like i said, the majority was middling with only a few at either extreme.

No problem!, BTW are actually my initials.

Age range of the 10+ people I have polled in the last three days! youngest is 25 oldest is 60 most of them are under 40. My two daughters are 30 & 31 and they don't like it all.  I have heard several comments like, cartoonish, made for a kindergartner, dumbed down to name a few.  I have one friend who had Graves' disease and she can't use her ipad, iPhone or iPod because the effect it has on her eyes. My  sister in law has migraine issues and the screen is more than she can bear at this point (she has to wear sunglasses in bright light). The 60 year old is struggling with small text, fine lines and the bright contrasting colors, he described them as neon lights.

I am due for an upgrade on my phone was going to get a iPhone 5, but think I will now get a Samsung Galaxy or equivalent.

That's a decent sampling too, BTW.  I sorry your friend is having such issues with her eyes and the interface.  I'm assuming that they have tried dialing down the contrast and incresaing the boldness of the text?  I know it sounds obvious, but it never hurts to ask.

And my first impression of the new icons was Fisher-price/PlaySkool.  While i like some of the new utilty of iOS7, the UI and iconography is still holding me back.  We'll see how long i hold out.

Apple could easily allow us to go back to IOS 6, but that would be admission of error.  Apple, It's time to do the right thing for your loyal customers becuase we're not feeling the Apple love. We'll go back to IOS 7 when you get it to a functional state and working well, but in the mean time, lets us go back to productive days.

I love change, but not when the change painful. It's hard to have a product that is awesome and then have the company make it less desirable. What can I say, positive feedback is not deserved this time.  Sorry.....

Do you work for Apple?  There are many many issues with IOS 7 and its not just cosmetic. We can live with cosmetic issues but functional problems are major. If you want a full list, be happy to provide.  I've personally submitted many tickets.  I'm sure with enough time most will be resolved, but is it necessary to put users in this position?

I also was disapointed that I could not go back to IOS6.  IOS7 is just clumsy and ugly.  I'm wondering who let the 7 year old into the GUI design lab.  I especially dislike the Calendar and Visual, or not so visual, Voice mail apps.  They look cheap and like a 1970's CLI.  The new sideways swip is always messing me up.  With IOS6 you didn't have to even look at the app as you manipulated it.  Your finger swipes did exactly as expected.  Now with the horizontal swipe, if you don't keep your eyes on the app, you'll find yourself lost and not knowing where you are when you look down.  It's way too sensitive.  As you swipe up or down, the slightest bit of sideways swipe, unintentionally done, takes you off track.  It seems like you have to concentrate much more on the apps to use them.  The Phone apps are all just ugly!  Black and white!  Really!  Please go back to the look and feel of the elegant IOS6!  Well, if Apple doesn't make a big change soon.  I'll have to move to a much prettier OS, Android.  I've been with iPhone since the 3GS and have truly loved the iPhone.  That has love has come to an end with IOS7.  I'll never upgrade my iPads ,no way!  I know there's much more, under the hood, to IOS7, but I've had tapping issues on the same phone as I ran IOS6 on, Phone call issues, voicemail issues, touch screen issues ,and the worst issues with the core apps I depend on, or now can't depend on. We can clearly see what is happening with the great Mr Jobs gone.

I feel the same way, but I'm hoping Apple will wake up and resolve the issues quickly.  I'm certainly not buying any more devices until it's fixed/ I took back my iPhone 5S and went back to my iPhone 5.  At this point I'm not going to take any risk and upgrade the OS on my Macbook Pro Retina, Macbook Airs or iMacs.  I'm waiting until others provide feedback.  It's not worth the risk after this last upgrade.

Wrong,  Apple chooses not to let customer go back to IOS 6 becuase  they're afraid of the number of people and iPhone 5S customers will not have the option unless they upgrade IOS6 to support the new hardware.

There are no "mods" in this thread. We're all users, just like you.
