Wow.  That does look good.  Apple should hire that guy!

i agree with everything you said except the last part..i will not accept all that will be left.. i absolutly feel that i have been taken advantage of..i worked hared and paid for a phone that i was very happy with..loved the features and the fact that the creator was very consious of quality..since his passing this company has gone to the toilet,i did not know how the changes would affect the looks of my phone.. are they not capable of improving the glitches without butchering everything else.. i have gone back to a computer to type this..and will not be giving apple any more of my money.. their loss.. this year we are planning to change all our televisions and i was going to by an ipad and a new computer  all of which were going to be apple because up until now i trusted the company.. but now that Steve Jobs is no longer at the helm i will definetly rethink how and wherei spen my money..

It seems like most of the people who "love" ios7 don't have anything else in their lives to occupy their time except research websites/forums on all the features in that ios. I would just like to turn on the iphone and use it intuitively. That is gone now. Who knew that holding the period down brings up options like ".com"? I love these posts "oh you can fix that by clicking into these 10 layers in ios settings and simply change this setting...." I ask you why is it "broken" in the first place?? Monkeys for beta testers? I run two businesses and don't have time to spend hours researching features that aren't obvious. It's supposed to be a tool not a toy. Looks like Steve Jobs has taken the iphone with him.

Nobody had this much distaste for ios5 or ios6. It was always an improvement.

I wonder if google has bought into apple as that sure would explain a lot. Pfffft.

Wow. That's interesting! And here I was thinking that they were so spot-on that anyone and everyone would love 'em. But that goes to rpove, any graphic design will be a matter of taste, so when you switch up something as iconic and recognizable as the UI of iOS6 - there will be inevitable polarity.

What's also funny is you think these are old and dull - I find iOS 7 to be gaudy and loud - definitely "bling"-y and a product of a post-Beyonce culture.

I thought they looked great and would probably buy them if it was possible to use them.

It's likely that the colors were selected to appeal to a new huge market in China.

Not to my taste either, but it's still hard for me to comprehend how this is more than a trivial issue.  How much time does anyone spend staring at icons vs using the phone????

Ya the icons are trivial. But I think the discussion, at least for me, is that some of the visuals in iOS 7 are difficult to see when comparing them to iOS 7.

I'm getting used to iOS 7 and there are improvements I'm enjoying. Some of the visual cues for me are not as obvious just glancing at the phone as they were in iOS 6. And some things are extremely difficult to read and distracting. For example the bright neon green background with white text and graphics of the status bar at the top of the screen while a phone call is minimized.

That's a good point. But the icon screen influenced/influences/is part of the overall look - with the oceans of white-space, the weird blurry transitions when using the camera, the text messaging interface, the zoomign transitions, etc etc - again, lots of "bling". (aside from the zooming transitions - which now has a disable option - the thing that I find most egregious is the camera having white-space behind it. A black background screen is much more sensible to bring out and focus on the photo.) Add to that the difficulty of reading text messages as WDI point out - which I don't have with iOS 6 or any other iOS.

And, you know, the homescreen - that's to some extent as key and vital as the Apple logo, or the McDonald's arches, the Coca-Cola font. You have a sense of brand values and identity by seeing it. And what iOS 7 looks like is a demographic much different than mine.

Have no idea what you mean.  There is a black border surrounding the real time image from the camera. Are you referring to the Camera App icon???

So you think that the iOS home screen should be forever unchanged like a logo??   You're not taking into consideration that the iOS 6 look is essentially unchanged from  iOS 1 from 2007.  Many, many, many have grown weary of it and Apple was being bashed for the tired SOS.  They are now gaining market share instead of losing under iOS 6.  There are many more who like the new look than cling to the past.  They are gaining more new customer than losing.

Those are all good, valid points. I remember when the 5 came out and I looked at it and the Galaxy 3 side-by-side, and thinking the Samsung had a little more "hip" points going for it. So, yes, Apple DID need to "evolve or die".

That said, it's a huge shift, and it's almost - to stick with the McDonald's analogies - like they replaced the sesame seed bun on the Big Mac with....focacia bread. (by which I mean, something that is strikingly different - and would be better or worse depending on taste).

The camera...I'm back on 6, so it might have been the photo library...but the background (like notes, reminders, etc) was WHITE. Glaringly, blindingly WHITE. To the point where I had to dim the phone, but then I'm losing the vibrancy of the photos - sort of liek the surgeon who says, "The operation was a success, but unfortunately the patient died."). Prevously, it was black - (OH! this is definitely photo library - bc I'm talking about post-cropping) - and the photo was washed out by the background. (within camera, there's a weird blur transition when you want to see the photo you've just taken - and I don't know about the camera changes in the 5S, but I really like the "basic-ness" and bareness of the iOS 6 camera - I've got tons of tools and apps for filters, borders, etc.

I don't see how the white border "washed out" the photo at all.  Neither is it "blindingly white" unless your brightness level is already too high.

Yes, within the Photos app, the background is white up until you select a picture and then tap on it to get rid of the borders. At that point the BG goes black.  And I agree, the idea of a white BG for photography is against the accepted practice, but looking the same as every other app is apparently far more important. I'm just happy that they didn't go to a white background for the final display, but maybe that's coming in 7.1.

That goes back to my statement that I dimmed the screen, but then lost a good deal of the vividness of the photos.

Without changing usual brightness level, I find the border isn't "blinding" and the photo has proper contrast, brigtness, and color saturation.  This is on an iPhone 5s, iPhone 4, iPad 2 and iPad 3.

The built in editing features of the iOS 7 Photo App work well and are a lot more convenient than using a 3rd party app.
