Nov 22, 2013 6:08 AM in response to Heliecopterby Sixtentherabbit,You´re absolutely right!
The aesthestics of the previous iOS was what separated Apple from the the dreary rest. Now since they´ve adopted a mish mash blend of Windos and Android they are not unique in any way anymore and I might as well just look at tech specs when getting my new phone.
Before iOS7 I wouldn´t even have had that thought in my mind. Before iOS7 there was only one phone for me.
I solved myproblem with iOS7 temporarily by buying a used phone that hadn´t been upgraded. I going to use the crap out of it until all app updates make it impossible, then I guess I´ll have to switch. But hey, why should Apple care, I´m just one user.

Nov 22, 2013 6:24 AM in response to Sixtentherabbitby AntonLargiader,There's hope. Looking at that cultofmac preview, it looks like they have undone a bit more of the damage. Depending on how that works out, I might actually install that on my iPad.
It's still annoying that they added steps to routine tasks, but I can just deal with that (especially on the iPad where I don't call anyone) and hope that either they fix those things later or an aftermarket app comes along that does a better job. If the colors are brought under control and the contrast goes back to something resembling normal, I'll have hope.

Nov 22, 2013 6:39 AM in response to AntonLargiaderby WDI,Every time I go back to my iPod touch still running iOS 6 I realize how much I don't like iOS 7. To me ios 6 is organized looking, easy to see and looks pleasing. There is so much detail in the little things in iOS 6 that I really don't see them getting back again unless they start making things look like iOS 6 again which I don't think they will. I think the people leading apple felt it was time for a change and are stuck with it for better or worse. It really is a shame.

Nonsense. iOS 7 looks and operates nothing like androgyny and windoze phones and no more so than iOS 1-6. If you think so, explain how.

During my time on iOS 7, I remember being baffled that to set the camera to HDR mode, you had to go into settings, rathar than right within the camera app. That was a blunder with no good rationale behind it. According to that article, 7/1 now has the HDR where it always had been and where it always should have been - within the app.
VM's I remmeber taking an extra step, and same with forwarding text messages. I personally prefer the look to close apps of ios6 - the icon appears at the bottom of the screen, etc. Why they have yet to just have a "CLOSE ALL APPS" feature is beyond me.
There was something else regarding the camera...locations, if I recall.

Incorrect. It remains in the app, just as easily set and changed. Almost inconceivable that you missed that.

Nothing at all changed with voicemail and "forwarding text messages" remains just as simple.

Huh? Now you get both an icon and a preview screen which is you slide up (2 at at time if you want) as ONE step rather that the 2 step process (press to wiggle, touch 'X") in iOS 6.
Why they have yet to just have a "CLOSE ALL APPS" feature is beyond me.
Maybe if you had a clue how iOS multitasking works, it wouldn't be "beyond" you that a close all is both unnecessary ant pointless.
There was something else regarding the camera...locations, if I recall.
What's clear from your post is that you never used iOS 7 and possible never used an iPhone at at. YAT.

Nov 22, 2013 12:38 PM in response to modular747by adamdavid80,UH..I most certainly did use 7 briefly. and i was one of the people who suffered from dizziness during the transtion mode, which many people here claimed was made up and BS...until APPLe corrected it with 7/0/1
I apologize....it was a grid mode, not HDR. And I don't know if they've corrected that with 7.1
as for vm and forwarding messages, yes, there was a change form 6 to 7...and not for the better. (I did take the time to specify that I "personally" preferred the old way...it was cleaner looking to me, and I just don't like all the motion involved with the new look (especially since I had the issue with the transition mode (and this look was orinigally a Palm thing, if I'm not mistaken). See here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFeC25BM9E0
And, yes...why not a feature that if you have 14 apps open at once, just to close them, instead of having to go through all of them and slide up each and every one? Wasn't that the appeal of the setting to update all apps when upgrades are available? to make things simpler for the user? (that's rhetorical. no need to answer)
Yes, I used it. Why you would even go there is...bizarre. I don't know what "YAT" means, but it's safe to assume it's meant as a dis.

The key word being "change", which apparanly you have trouble with. As to "better", I find the current action both quicker and more intuitive with iOS.
and I just don't like all the motion involved with the new look (especially since I had the issue with the transition mode (and this look was orinigally a Palm thing, if I'm not mistaken).
All motion can be disabled in iOS 7.0.3, not that this has anything to do with the "added steps" we're discussing.
And, yes...why not a feature that if you have 14 apps open at once, just to close them, instead of having to go through all of them and slide up each and every one?
You don't understand how the iOS works. The apps are not "open", only frozen for rapid task switching, and don't consume any resources. Very, very, very few apps actually run in the backround (such as audio streaming and navigation), and need to be closed. The iOS manages memory transparently. The only reason to "close" frozen apps is if they are malfunctioning.

Nov 22, 2013 1:28 PM in response to modular747by AntonLargiader,What routine tasks?
Not sure why you care, as I'm one of the ones you believe don't actually use IOS, but one that I use all the time is calling someone back in response to a text.
IOS6:
- Press "Call". It even looks like a button.
IOS7
- Press "Contact"
- Press the telephone icon
- Press "Voice Call"
The silly part is that the phone already knows if it's an IOS device on the other end, so why does it make me decline the Facetime Audio option when the other side can't do it in the first place?
-
Nov 22, 2013 1:41 PM in response to modular747by adamdavid80,That's a matter of preference. But I don't equate additional, new steps with better. That's just me.
Anything you know about the "grid" mode for the camera? has 7.1 taken the grid mode back directly into the camera, as it had previously been?
and, nonetheless, if a user just wants to close all apps at once...for whatever reason...why shouldn't it be an option? gotta be simple enough for the software to allow that.

There are extra steps taking maybe 1 second because FaceTime Audio call (not the same as video FaceTime) is now an option, not even existing in iOS 6. The horror, the horror!

Nov 22, 2013 2:08 PM in response to modular747by adamdavid80,So you admit they are additional, annoying steps.
Glad we're in agreement.
Now, you could apply that thinking to the grid feature for the camera, but that additional step is actually HUGE. You're lining up a shot, relaize you want to use grid mode, but now, instead of just being to access the option in-app, you have to leave the app, open settings, find the grid mode, select it, go back to the camera, and then hope that your subject hasnt walked off in boredom waiting for you to get your act together.
Again, this was not the case with 6. They went backwards with this for the "upgrade".
It's missteps like these - along with the loss of features for iWork - that make me uneasy with the general direction Apple is choosing.
-
Nov 22, 2013 2:12 PM in response to adamdavid80by modular747,Addintional necessary steps, due to new features and options. Not annoying at all, in fact quite welcome. "Annoying" is you're agenda.
Nothing "additional" with forwarding texts and no change at all with voicemail.
Regarding iOS 7.1, that can't be discussed in this forum
loss of features for iWork - that make me uneasy with the general direction Apple is choosing.
The features left out of the OS X version of iWork will be returined - already announced. There were no features lost in the iOS versions

Nov 22, 2013 2:13 PM in response to modular747by AntonLargiader,You asked, I answered. Yes, extra steps. And no, it's not because they added features, it's because they did away with the Call button. The Contact button has been there the whole time, ready to handle the new Facetime Audio.
If you actually used IOS6 and IOS7 you'd have known that.
