This is a user-to-user support forum. The forums are monitored by Apple for breaches of the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use, Each post is supposed to be a technical support question or an answer to the same. A degree of criticism is tollerated, but out and out rants or other posts that breach the TOU may be edited or removed. What Apple don't do is get directly involved in helping you resolve your problem. They may occasionaly post up a link to a relevant support article, but they don't get involved in detailed troubleshooting.

Have you made any progress in recovering your lost data?

Same problem. Lost massive amounts of saved podcasts - especially NPR All Songs Considered... Seems any decent number of podcasts get deleted. One, BBC Food Program, I found only three recent versions despite having saved since 2010. Then, clicking on the download cloud next to the podcast host name, it downloaded ALL the missing podcasts. I then saved iTunes, closed, restarted - and they were all gone again. This time I downloaded ALL the pods and then transferred them to a folder on my desktop. At least I have them. Am doing the same to All Songs Considered.

None of these files were in the iTunes folder (but simply invisible to the interface).

By far an inept iTunes update. Incredibly poor. I miss Jobs. I miss his attention to detail. I worry that Apple was a one-man wonder and we will all be driven into a PC-like ****.

    Absolutely not happy.

Go to Edit > Preferences Store and uncheck Sync podcast subscriptions, settings and stations before attempting to restore or redownload old episodes again.

Also check the default and individual subscription settings to make sure these haven't changed from Episodes to Keep: All.

I love it when people play the "This never would've happened if Jobs was stil alive" card.

I've got news for you.  There was just as much chance of this update shipping with the exact same problem if Steve Job was still alive and well.

I won't argue that there wasn't a chance, but it just didn't seem to happen. Anyone who says things haven't changed at Apple haven't been paying attention.

Part of the problem here is that since everyone is going to iPhones and iPads that don't have the storage I have on my iPod Classic, there is a bigger desire to keep things "cleaned up."

Thankfully, I only fool with my podcasts about once every couple weeks and haven't lost anything (yet). Thanks for the heads up, everyone. Sorry for your loss.

    Hi Everyone.

I am having the same problems that you are all describing here, Apple do not read what is posted in here.

You need to leave feedback on the feedback page http://www.apple.com/feedback/ They do read this as I have found out. The moor people that submit feedback regarding these issues the more chance of getting it fixed.

You can also e-mail and explain your issues, this does get read, you do get a response.

I spent the best part of an hour on Friday talking with Steffen M. explaining all the issues that we are having, it is from him that I learned that they do not read these forums and that the only way to get a response is by the routes above.

I left Steffen in no doubt that I was not happy with the recent update / downgrade of both iTunes and iOS and that if his products could no longer do what I needed, I no longer needed his products. He is away talking with the developers and I expect to hear from him durning the week. I am not sure what the result will be but if we all tell them what is wrong maybe they will listen.

I've had the same issues and keep having them with 11.1.1...

  • wombat10 Level 1 Level 1 (15 points)

11.1.2 seems to have fixed the issue for me.  I restored all my old podcast from backup, clicked the refresh button, and nothing was deleted!  In 11.1 and 11.1.1 my podcasts would be wiped out instantly when I clicked refresh.

Me too I was really mad when all my Manager tools podcasts were erased. This truly is the beginning of the end for Apple, I'm sad

  • Ken Lim Level 1 Level 1 (5 points)

I agree wholeheartedly I'm so sad, and i know Steve would be too.

The updated removed my podcasts also and they are no longer available. I am sad and have not been happy at about Itunes 11 no real new functionality but buggy interface and only the parts I like were available on Itune 10. I hope Itunes's team reads these post and understands that they need to be more careful with their testing. I think users have valid critisms about the lack of testing and bugs that keep coming with Itunes 11. This is my first post but I have had a great experience with Itunes and Apple for that matter until this update- I agree with Ken very sad about the loss of my unrecoverable data. I do hope Apple will more closely examine the Itunes updates in the future.

I have the same issue and it seems unrelated to iTunes version (I did downgrade to 11.0 and 11.1.1 to try it out and had the same issues).

What it looks like is an iCloud-related issue. At least for me, iTunes keeps the episodes I keep in my iDevices, obliterating everything else. I already submitted feedback and I'm waiting for a fix, but I don't hope fot it to come out any soon...

The latest update erased ALL of my history and detached from my external drive for the library. It looked for my local drive (where no music exists) and loaded that and my cloud as my library. Years of coding, playlists, preferences are GONE.
