iOS 7 update backup won't restore

So my iPhone 4s will not restore my backup to iOS7, I am getting the message your backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored.

The issue I experienced getting to this point:

- Backups completed twice fine

- Downloaded update to PC fine

- Phone dropped out while restoring iOS 7 to it

- In the "connect to itunes" mode the phone comes up in after failure I applied the update again and it worked fine (removed additional USB devices from PC)

- Chose the backup I wanted to restore to it (backup from the latest iOS6 version for iPhone 4s)

- Restore fails due to "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "*phone name*" because the backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored"

I have rolled back to 6.1.3 to restore my backup but I am getting the same error. I have moved the latest backup on my PC from AppData and am trying with an older backup getting the same error.

I cannot afford to not be able to restore my backup as I have favourites data in TomTom that I need and a lot of apps that I am going to loose data from. I need help to resolve.

There has never been any issues with backing up my phone (I have backups done over WiFi and USB) so there should be no reason why my backups would be corrupt. If my backup is corrupt and iTunes hasn't verified it and warned me prior to a restore, **** is going to hit the fan.

Could the fact that I have attempted to restore the backups to iOS 7 caused the corruption and not not able to restore on iOS 6?

Exact same problem here. First, my 4S gave me a message right at the end of the update to iOS7 saying the update failed. Said I had to revert. So, I did the revert. Said it was updated and what did I want. I selected Backup Restore. Everything appears to be updated on iTunes. When I go to the phone it gives me all the start up stuff as if I had not done the back up, including telling me to connect to iTunes to do the Backup Restore. Just a continuous circle of frustration!!

Hi. I'm new here. I was at my wits end trying to figure out how to fix a similar issue. I have an old toshiba laptop on Windows 7 (first problem, I know). I bought an Iphone 5s yesterday and couldn't restore from my Iphone 4s backup using Itunes. I kept getting "Itunes could not restore "Dorky-named-phone" because the backup session failed"

I fixed the problem 15 minutes ago using information from the following articles:

-http://jamieforrest.com/2010/06/18/itunes-could-not-backup-the-iphone-iphone-bec ause-the-backup-session-failed/comment-page-3/

To make a long story short, I tried each of the following, compounding them and restarting in between them until the restore worked:

- Restarted my computer and the 4s

- Updated Itunes to 11.1

- Updated the 5s to 7.0.1 (never reverted during this process)

- Made a backup of my backup and deleted the old one from Itunes (explained in article)

- Did NOT update the 4s running IOS 6 (read that this would cause many more problems and was scared)

- Changed my computer's timezone (think this was a windows-only fix)

- Ran Itunes as an administrator

- Imported my photos from the 4s to my computer and deleted them from the 4s (some discussions said this would make the backup shorter and easier)

- Tried restoring and a bar finally appeared with a time and then stopped and gave me the error message

- I crossed my fingers, made a wish on a shooting star and prayed to every benevolent diety known to man and pressed the restore button again...

- It finally worked

Now I have everything except my music (which I was managing manually in Itunes, and my photos, which I can pull from the PC.

Good luck to you all!

I also have a 4S and can't restore and update to IOS7 for the life of me. Already tried 10 times and it failed. Luckily I ised tinyumbrella to log out from Recovery Mode or else my Iphone 4S would be bricked. Apple seriously needs to work out this serious issue. Its really putting me off from Apple products and once my phone contract expires might get a Galaxy instead. Never have I experience such a bad update. But judging from alot of users, seems IOS7 is also being plagued by tons of issues. Serves Apple right, for making a half-assed patch update.

Have you tried my method? It worked for me.

Go to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync.

Rename the folder called "backup" to backup old.

Then recreate a new folder and name it backup.

Plug in iphone 4s and take a backup. Then try and restore.

Do not delete the old backup folder rename it instead that way you can undo it if required.

Note

You may have to change settings in order to view hidden folders.

Tried to update and then the restore from backup failed. It then proceeded to delete the backup meaning that now the most recent backup is over a month old meaning I've lost a months orth of photos - cheers for that apple

My phone still won't resore from any of the backups. Does anyone have a solution? I'm running on OSX.

Once you create the new (empty) "Backup" folder, copy the backup file you want to restore (from the backup file you just renamed to backup old or whatever) into that folder. Then launch iTunes and plug your iPhone. It should say that the iPhone has never been backed up. When you select 'restore backup' you should only have the option to restore the backup you copied into the folder you created. The iPhone should restore normally.

Note: this worked for me last night on windows vista after 5 days of breaking my head searching for a solution and almost giving up but I was able to fully restore my replacement iPhone 5 with the iPhone 5 backup I made last Saturday.

Also, I had to create the copy of my backup file in windows safe-mode since I kept getting an error halfway through copying the file and could not create a copy when logged to the PC normally.

In my situation, I was replacing an iPhone 5 with a cracked screen. As soon as I tried to restore the first time, I got the error that the backup was corrupt but this method cleared that issue.

Hope this helps some of you.
