the solution is pretty straight forward, its due to an unsuccessful backup initially, the quickest way to resolve this is to delete the corrupted backup from the iTunes (under preference) and re-backup again, ensuring that it complete successfully. Then connect the new iPhone and restore to that backup, ensure that the restore complete without any interruptions. Then there you have, a complete mimic of the original data/layout/apps/photo/music from the old iPhone to the new iPhone.

I successfully migrated from iPhone4S to iPhone5, iPhone5S, iPad Mini.

Its proven. The problem lies in the initially backup file.

Thank you sooooo much Rob87. After 2 days of tears and super frustration not to mention not being able to work my business properly because of this problem, you have solved it for me. THANK YOU!!!! I renamed the backup folder, created the new folder, then went through the process again. plus added a prayer And yay it worked. Very grateful for you and others who take the time to share their wisdom with us here since Apple cant be bothered doing so. Cheers, Jane

Well Im having a new problem. I did a backup to itunes 11.x of my iphone 4s 7.0.4. My apps, settings etc all restored to iphone 5S 7.0.4. I can see my music videos and books by tittle and even album covers.. When I open them it asks me to restore each one of them from the cloud?? Huh??

Worse than that it decided to go cuckoo. It decided to match all my music and if it doesnt exist in the cloud it doesnt even appear on my iphone to download.

Ive restored again and resynched itunes and Im not getting my music back except manaul restore of what it can find in the cloud. And again Ill restate same with books and videos.

Why isn't the itunes backup synching with itunes and restoring the music videos and books. Why is it asking me to individually restore all of them from the cloud??

I just updated to IOS7 and of course tried to restore my iphone4 because I lost everything as well. It seems everyone is having this problem. I completed system restore from differnt itunes backups and it would continue to go back to the Hello screen on the iphone. Each time on the iphone when i got that Hello screen I would go through and choose my Country , language ,etc and each time say I wanted to restore from a backup - (not set up a new iphone). Nothing seemed to work. Finally I said forget it I am loosing everything and on the iphone chose set up a "new iphone" . I went through the few screens and put in my apple password. The icons came up on screen and when I looked all my contacts and data and pictures , email everything was there, even though I said I wanted to set up a new iphone and not from a back up...go figure.

The same happens to me when trying to upgrade my iphone to latest version. Then I have no choice to make a new backup, and my last the backups tell that they are corrupted. Using iExplorer I can see all my contacts, notes....

I'm very unhappy with apple backup software... if some all the files are corrupt, why they olny restore available files... I prefer to lose 5 photos rather than all phone...

I just did what Thillbilli suggested awhile back in thread and it worked for me.  I can't believe no one else has had luck with this.  I was going from 4s to 5s and getting corrupt/incompatible message repeatedly.  Try deleting your backups in preferences, backup old phone again, then restore new one. Forget deleting apps, messing with files, etc. Thanks Thillbilli !

Guys, For those that do not have any options but to recover the content of their iTunes backup, you can use iBackupBot. Its free and you can recover selected or all you data as long as its not entirely corrupted.

  • ubanov Level 1 Level 1

thank you maxblue, with iBackupBot, I have been able to restore some data.

I have restored notes, i have restored backup of some apps... I have not be able to restore pictures (but I have then in dropbox backup :-)

    Thanks a lot

Well, I'll just add a message to this long list. iPhone 4, bought today, all synchs and backups and installs yadda yadda, everything went fine.

Then I upgraded to ios7 and wham, my phone is the most expensive brick.

Worst experience EVER. This is PATHETIC, come on apple, you might at least pop up in the forums and tell us why the **** you couldn't fix this in what is it, 4 months? Or you could, you know, hire somebody who actually has a clue. Whoever wrote this mess of a program should be slapped on the head with an iPad.

Has anyone managed to actually restore then, I have lost everything on the phone, was not told once that the backup had failed, backed it up to 3 different pcs to be safe, and yet it is apparently corupt.

    I am now hating Apple.

  • il biggo Level 1 Level 1

This might not be a universal solution, but I finally restored my data by telling my iphone to register to itunes as a NEW phone, and then restoring the last backup from before the upgrade. Thanks for nothing, apple.

  • jblancas01 Level 1 Level 1

I have the same problem with my iPhone 5 and I don't know why I can't get it to work. I tried to get the backup from my laptop and put it on my computer to see if I can get it to work by restoring my iPhone on a different computer but nothing. So I don't know what else to try. I need help please!

  • il biggo Level 1 Level 1

Have you tried my suggestion above? Tell the phone to register as a new phone, then restore your backup. I'd like to know whether I've just been lucky or I've found THE solution

  • gembrain Level 1 Level 1

I think you were lucky. When upgrading my iphone to the 5S and trying the same method it restored all my Apps but not things such as all my texts or TomTom preferences, favourites, etc
