Q: iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app.  Several hard resets have had no effect.

I have the exact same problem, now I have restored my iPhone on DFU mode, and (until) now the camera is working fine.

I have opened and closed the camera app several times and still working, I hope it continues working

What is the DFU mode for? Can you restore you iPhone from a previous backup after using the DFU mode?

    Dears

Finally I went to applestore with a reservation from Genius Bar and they just changed my iphone with a new one without any question..

They have no idea how it happens but think malfunction is related with some of series, not all the series of iphone5.

by the way there is no chance upgrading your phone to 5s or 5c by adding some pennies. They are oblidged to replace a mobile exactly the same phone with yours.

There is nothing to do with software update and no hope! You just need to replace your iphone, believe it is very easy and no questioning.

I have been enjoying my iPhone 4S 32gb since April 2012 without so much a minor problem. It is well looked after and not had any bumps or bruises. BOTH camera working fine until 24/10/2013 ar 21:00gmt when I allowed my phone to update to ios7.0.3. Since allowing this upgrade both cameras stopped functioning, giving a black screen where the picture was. I switched off the camera and facetime in restrictions, then on again and the front camera sprang back in to life.

Now I am pretty damned confident that the hardware has not changed whilst the update took place, so I can only conclude that the change of software/firmware has either done something to the hardware to break it or is doing something strange itself.

Obviously the phone is outside of the 1 year warranty so both O2 and Apple have no interest in solving the problem other than charging my large sums of money to diagnose the problem.

I am feel very let down by Apple after this update. What on earth is going on? Are other users experiencing this problem. Is it the the 4S hardware isnt compatible with the new firmware? If so, what should I be doing about this?

    Thanks loads.

loftypro: I have the same story, but with an iPhone 4. I've never dropped or damaged the phone, and it was in perfect working order until the update. After the update both my rear camera and the LED flash ceased functioning. With roughly 110 replies on this thread and well over 22,000 views this seems to be less of a coincidence.

I'm having the same problem. The back camera loads black and never recovers. I took it to the Genius Bar and even after completely restoring the phone as if it were brand new, it still didn't work. This led me to believe that it was a hardware, not software, issue.

Since my warranty ran out 32 days prior (figures), I decided to try swapping out the camera myself. Not an easy task, but far cheaper at $20 than the $269 that Apple was going to charge me for a new phone. Unfortunately after 2 1/2 hours pulling my phone apart and succesfully swapping out the camera, IT STILL DOESN'T WORK!

The only thing that I can figure is that there's a short somewhere else on the motherboard that's causing the camera not to work. This is infuriating to say the least, especially since I've started using my iPhone as my primary camera over the past few years. If anyone has a solid fix for this, I'd love to hear it because I feel like I've gone much farther than most people would only to be let down.

After the restore in DFU Mode, the camera worked fine for some time, but now is the same, the camera and the flashlight don't work c'mon apple do something, we have to make some sound on the blogs to get some attention?

Same problem here. I got to admit I have been a very big apple supporter for quite a few years now but this might be the last straw for me. I am very good about taking care of my electronics and my iphone 5 is no exception. The fact that Apple caused this issue and will not take responsibility for it says to me they don't care about their customers at all. My phone was insured however 4 months ago I had to cancel and get a new credit card because someone had been using it, well it turns out they will not send you any notification that you have missed payments and I assumed I was still paying it with my credit card bill. Basically they canceled my insurance. Everything on my iPhone 5 works perfectly except the camera which is what I use most on the phone. I can't justify spending hundreds of dollars to fix the camera, heck I may as well just go out and buy a real camera for that amount of money. It is completely unethical for Apple to charge customers for a mistake they themselves made and they should feel ashamed. Im sure there behavior regarding this issue will have repercussions. My contract is almost up and the Nexus is becoming more and more appealing.

The Apple store reluctantly replaced my iPhone 5 which was 6 days out of warranty when the 7.0.2 update caused the camera and flash to stop working. I was initially given the standard response that no one else has reported this problem and then told the out of warranty replacement cost.  I explained that was not acceptable given that the problem was caused by an Apple iOS update. After a brief but tense discussion, the store manager agreed to replace the phone while attempting to lecture me on Applecare coverage. I explained that I won't purchase Applecare to protect me from failed iOS updates.

My advice is to print this thread and bring it with you to the Apple store. I had it on my iPhone but they refused to acknowledge or look at it but the point was still made. I would suggest being firm but not an a-hole.

I will say this was this is the most unhappy I've ever been with Apple and I've been a big supporter since 1985. Tim Cook might be a supply chain genius but I'm not impressed with Apple's innovation or pursuit of excellence since he took over.
