Q: iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app.  Several hard resets have had no effect.

And this will solve your problem how?

Customer service from any android manufacturor is usually way worse than Apple's.

Send a bug report to Apple, phone Apple or visit an Apple Store. Much more helpful than walking away.

O, and switching a smartphone platform for a software issue with the camera? Seriously?

Yes seriously because we cannot report a bug, it doesnt support people from my area. They dont entertain calls from us nor they have any service area in the gulf. What do u expect from me? Work without a camera for my life ot buy another iphone and be ready for same treatment? Seriously? Duhhh...

Well, I have the same problem here in Argentina, here doesn't exist any official service and I can not use the warranty. So my solution is travel to Brazil or EEUU to fix it.

Genius Bar at South Coast Plaza couldn't fix it.  I'm out of warranty by 2 months, they said tough luck.  I was offered a replacement for $280.  I told them about this thread and the bug report but I guess I should have gotten Apple Care! Maybe they will somehow fix it via a future software update.

It is no serious to think that is hardware issue, i had immediately  a frozen camera after updating to ios7 on an ipad2.

It never happen any issue on this camera with previous versions.

It is a change management problem due to  weak testing.... It is very convenient to say that is hardware as so many users are now out of the warranty period.

An official rollback to previous OS version for outdated/out of warranty product could be an acceptable solution for disapointed end-users.

I dont have renew my iphones, and Mac for two years ....since there is so many issues with no acceptable solutions.

For 20 years, Apple provided to end-users a friendly environement working with no hassle, this period is over, and it is time to ask ourselves, do we get enough for our good money ?

Weirdest thing: for no apparent reason, my iPad camera is back working normally today! Again!

Have being playing A LOT with restrictions, passcode and screen bright. After many resets, it is working again today.

Won't get very excited, because it has come back to life before. Maybe tomorrow it will be dead again. We'll see.

This bug is really bugging me a lot...

I'm following this thread for a while now. I've literally tried everything in this thread. Restored, software updates, knocking, everything, Nothing worked. The camera was inactive for weeks now. The flashlight icon in control center was greyed out as well. The only thing that had a little effect was playing around with the camera settings. Setting the flashlight to auto, off and on. After tweaking this settings for minutes and rebooting often, the greyed out flashlight icon became active again. The flashlight worked as well. The camera however still was dead.

Now, today... I already gave up on this problem. I was hoping for a software update. I haven't tried anything anymore. Until I just discovered that the camera worked again (it was still broken this morning)! The only thing that I remember doing to the iPhone was simply rebooting it. There's another thing though. I had the iPhone laying on my iPad Smart Cover, which contains magnets. I'm not sure it was the Smart Cover that solved the issue, but it's worth considering. Let's hope the camera will stay active.

I had the same problem on my iPad 2. After upgrading to iOS 7, the rear camera did not work at all. Today I've read some people on another thread tried restoring factory settings through iTunes instead of the settings on iPad, so I tried it and the camera is finally working again. Maybe you guys could give it a try.

    This worked for me!

Things I tried that didn't work:

    • resetting, resetting all content & settings,
    • the suggested HDR/flash fiddling,
    • the suggested auto-brightness on/off fiddling.

What I did now that worked:

    1. Went into a dark room
    2. Turned off auto-brightness
    3. Tured brightness all the way down
    4. Turned on auto-brightness
    5. Went to a bright room
    6. Repeated steps 2 - 4

We'll see if it sticks, but right now I'm just glad that it's not a hardware issue.

I wasn't using my camera for a while on my iPhone 5 now for a while because I was using my GoPro for some time now.  I left my Hero at home and was forced to use my camera at a football game and to my surprise this freezing issue is happening to me and I didn't even know it.  So I said no problem I'll address it when I get home and just use my iPhone 4 to take some lower quality photos and video.  WTH!!! My camera is just completely gone on my 4.

The ios 7 update is a crock and needs to be fixed ASAP!!!  I was forced to use my friends Samsung G4 to take some beautiful photos and vids.  Almost making me want to switch over and dig a grave for all of my apple products.

I found this thread useful and will try some of the methods that are suggested, but ultimately the initial fix needs to come from Apple and they need to quit suggesting that it was a 100% error free update and user error.

I really thought this was a joke... I shut my phone off, in a OtterBox, turned it back on and hit it up against my hand and wadda you know it worked.  No Lie!!!

Guess the ole beat it till it works theory still applies to today’s technology after all.  Thx!!!

All these stories of camera working again shows that it is not a hardware issue. Are you listening Apple people? Haaa....why wud you? Lucky guys, all with working cameras. Your stories fills me with a ray of hope but after several tries, I am again in despair. I gave my phone to retailer, he took out the camera to put into another iphone and the camera worked fine in that. But when he installed another working camera in my iphone, it wudnt budge. Clearly, it states the camera has no problem but the software is the issue.
