Q: iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app.  Several hard resets have had no effect.

Lucky for you! I had taken my phone into Apple support and let them know that I was having an issue with my iPhone w w rear camera and they said it was a known issue that it was a hardware issue and that they could fix that problem until he took it out in the back in ruled out it was water damage therefore voiding my  warranty completely

Terrible Stuff. I had a "Lifeproof" Case on my Phone. I knew it was deffinatly a Problem with the Device. Good Luck in the Future with your Apple Products!

I have the same issue as yours. I really talked with apple support twice.  The first day, I have no luck, the second level support told me to pretty much to get lost in a nice way if I am not willing to pay $275 for replacement.  I have a 64GB Iphone 5.  So I called again the next day and told them what is going on about my front face camera and really hoping to get some resolution.  In fairness, the front camera is rarely used and working fine before S/W update 7.04.  I told them if I can only revert back successfully to 7.02 I would gladly do it but it doesn't work that way.  So after holding and talking with them for an hour I was able to get help and spoke with Jessica and Sarah Elizabeth.  They both helped me a lot and understood where I was coming from considering that my house pretty much live around Apple products.  Sarah was from customer service relation and she was very helpful.  They did some sort of diagnostic via text message, I don't know what is that for but I cooperated since they are very helpful.  They are sending me a replacement via express repair.  I was advised that they will check the defective phone once it's received/returned and has to be proven that it's not waterdamaged or opened.  Hopefully everything works, considering I got this phone as a take over contract from someone, either way it was working properly prior to update.  If things doesn't go well, they will charge me around $275, which I hope not.  Money is tight especially this Holiday season.  I only had this phone recently and the warranty just expired in two months while the monthly plan is still running.  It really depends who you talk with Apple Support.  I know this is a software issue, and I don't believe about underlying problem prior to software update. If there was a problem to begin with, then your phone should have started acting incorrectly but the point is it didn't and was working flawlessly.

My advise is, talk to Apple Support sincerely and express our concern, you might get lucky.  With what happened to me, I still trust their product, considering I owned so many iphones in the past 3 years, I have like 3 iphone4, 3 iphone5, iPad, nanos and ipods. Considering to buy a mac book but will definitely in the process of buying apple TV box.  I'll keep you guys posted for the update regarding this experience.

As of now, the replacement part is on the way probably will receive it in several days due to holidays, in the mean time they put a hold of 700 in my  VISA for security purpose which is understandable.

Same Situation. They have sent me a Re-placement.
However, the Tech Agent claims that is not an Known Issue. Interesting.

Same issue.  Went to Genius Bar today, was immediately told "There's nothing we can do.  Your phone is out of warranty.  [Note it's 14 months old, which, I'm sorry, is it too much to ask that a phone last two years?]  You can buy a replacement for $269."  I've NEVER had a phone from any other manufacturer fail in any way in this little time, so it would seem I'd be better off buying a replacement from a competitor...

Given the number of views this string has, and the number of replies, it is impossible that Apple is not aware of their poor design and/or poor quality.  Yet they will do nothing to actually remedy the situation.

I bought the iphone 5s in the U.S. and camera stopped working after update of iOS 7.0.4. Today I live in Brazil and the apple support said I need to return to the U.S. to replace the unit. This is absurd!

Sadly, your experience doesn't surprise me.  80k+ views of this discussion and Apple refuses to acknowledge their own defect, choosing instead to give customers the runaround, as they're doing to you and me and countless others.  Repugnant and contemptible...dishonest, unethical...heading back to Samsung phones (they work just fine) and leaving the MacBook out of consideration when I shop for a new laptop next year.

I was taking pictures at my New Years Eve party and all of a sudden my rear camera went black. I did a reset but that hasn't helped. I'm assuming there is no concrete solution to the problem yet? My phone is older than 12 months now - I don't fancy Apple asking me to pay to get it fixed. It was very weird because the camera was working fine one moment and suddenly stopped working.

I bought a refurbished Iphone 4 in November and it worked perfectely fine till yesterday evening! The front facing camera just stoped working, and the rear camera is very slow to work. Ive tried reseting all my settings and the phone itself. Nothing seems to work!!!! Does anyone know if i can go into an apple store, even though i bought it of a private seller?

    Thanks Ellie

I'm having the same problem after the update to 7.0.4. Rear camera was working fine then in the middle of take some shots it just went black. Have tried all the solutions on here including full restore setting up phone as new and camera still didn't work with no other apps installed. Phone was out of warrenty by about 6 weeks when it happened and I'm lost without my camera as I literally take hundreds of photos each week.

Come on Apple it obvious there is some issue with either shoddy hardware not working with iOS 7 properly or an issue in the iOS itself, please wort it out. Keeping my fingers crossed the the mythical 7.1 release will have a fix in it but not holding my breath.
