Q: iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app.  Several hard resets have had no effect.

Well I hope that this post will help a lot of people wasting time trying to fix this on-going camera issue.

    OK....the things I have tried.

    1) Double clicked the home button and swiped the camera app up to close.

Then carried out a power reset by holding the power button and home button together.

    Outcome: FAILED

    2) Carried out a factory reset via ITunes

    Outcome: FAILED

    3) Typed password in wrong several times so phone will lock then carried out reset via ITunes.

    Outcome: FAILED

    4) Carried out a full iPhone wipe via "Find My Phone"

    Outcome: FAILED

    5) Hit the corner near camera (Who said this works??)

    Outcome: FAILED

    6) Heat the back of the phone by the camera

    Outcome: FAILED

    7) Reset all settings via General tab in settings

    Outcome: FAILED

    8) Used 3rd party camera apps

    OUTCOME: FAILED

OK...so I believe that this covers most things that have been suggested and all failed.

The only thing I could advise "BUT NOT TRIED" is to try and downgrade to an earlier IOS (So not IOS 7). Can this be done via IOS 7.0.4 full version not the Beta?

If so how do you do it?

    Also..............

Has anyone jailbroke an IPhone 5 on IOS 7.0.4 and checked out the camera??

    Hope this helps.

My iphone is making a sound as well, when auto-focus is turned on. It is a very faint noice, put your phone close to your eye while focusing on something.

Actually doing the cover both cameras and speaker actually works 1 in 3 times, but maybe that's because I've an old iphone 4.

I want to add a data point and another idea to test. I have an iphone 5 and have had the camera hang issue intermittently ever since I upgraded to IOS 7. I can't *believe* Apple hasn't figured this out yet. Anyway, here is something that I recently did that seems to have fixed the problem for me: I have a 16G model phone, which was pretty full with apps & music (about half and half). While working on another project I deleted almost all my music, freeing up a ton of space; my camera which had been hung immediately started working and has been working ever since. I don't understand why/what happened, my theory would be that maybe there is some memory allocation issue. I don't know that it makes a lot of sense, but it is working now for me. I will update here if the hang comes back. Good luck all

I've had this problem since the day of the ios7 update, and have been hanging on waiting for a fix, but nothing's happened as you all know. My phone was out of warranty in October and Orange or Apple wouldn't do anything other than try and sell me an upgrade for £180. I know someone who works at Cupertino and he is not aware of any fix being worked on. This week i bit the bullet, took my phone to Grainger Games in York and they put a new camera in for £60 and now everything works perfectly. So obviously a compatability issue between the hardware and the software in the phones of everyone who is effected. My suggestion - put up with it, or do as i did. Next time i'll probably take Apple Care which presumably is what Apple would prefer people to do!

Well it hung again, so that theory is busted. Oh well.

Well guys, I've been deLing with the same camera and spoivbt issue for going on about two months. Apple store was going to charge me $280 for a new device since it was out of warranty. I ran a diagnostic on apple's website to my phone a couple of days ago and it cited a power issue as the reason for my camera acting up. A couple of months ago my original apple battery went bad so I bought a replacement from amazon. Everything started out fine, but recently my battery life has SUCKED. My phone wouldn't charge over 80% and would short out and die below 50%. I bought two spare batteries and decided to change this one out myself tonight. Surprise, surprise, my camera and spotlight are working again. Gonna let my phone die and charge it back to 100% today at work. Give it a shot ladies and gents.

Can you get it replaced under the EU warranty?

I have the same problem, but I am sure it is NOT a harware issue - the rear camera stopped working about 2 weeks ago - just showed black on the screen and froze the camera app - also the tourch wouldnt work, showed greyed out..... then last weekend it randomly started working again - no problems at all, tourch was working too! However it has now again stopped working!!

I heard you can get them replaced under EU warranty law (http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/) if its a fault with the product up to 6 years!! Has anyone had an item replaced outside of the apple warranty for free under the EU warranty?

My iPhone 5C comes with same issue after upgrading to ios 7.0.4

    Before that, it was fine.

I have restarted, rebooted, reset the settings, etc. Those all didnt work.

Front cam is ok, just rear cam is always freezing.

    Shout  out to APPLE!

However, my iPad mini doesnt have such issue with ios 7.0.4

I'm having this issue with my iPod's front camera. It refuses to open and just freezes on a blurry/black screen. I've tried everything that's been suggested on this thread but nothing helped.

I'm around 3 months past warranty, but hopefully I can still get it replaced for free since I'm from Europe.
