mass delete of email

Mass deletion of emails is best performed on a web browser. No portable device allows you to do this as far as I know for fear that someone might accidentally delete everything.

Same problem, have over 7,000 junk emails.....So, I'm a new user to iPhone....is there a place to go to see all email in a Web browser, or do I need to log into each of my email accounts via a web browser and delete them there?

There was a work around in ios6 for marking all read and moving to trash in ios 6. It looks like it works in ios 7 but my emails seem to still be there. For what it's worth in case it works for you what you do is select edit, and then check one email message, hold down the move option and while you are holding it uncheck the email you previously checked, once unchecked release the move option and then select the trash folder. After your release move it may take a little bit before the next screen pops up if you have a lot of emails. Maybe it will work for you as it used to work for me.Now when I do it, it looks like the messages delete but when I leave and re enter the folder they are back for some reason.

Bama35OZ's suggestion works but only deletes 250 at once. Better than no solution but I have 14K emails so this is going to take a while!

I have latest iOS7 on my 4S. The mass delete of SENT emails was my problem. Happy to report the solution offered by BAMA350Z works perfectly AND I was able to mass delete over 1,000 sent emails in one operation. Thanks BAMA!!!

Worked on 4S with iOS7, deleting all email messages at once---over 1,000. iPad 4 with iOS7 is touch and go. 769 messages, but haven't been able to grab all of them. It's a start, but ridiculous that there isn't a purge/mass delete in the OS.

It appears Apple is doing it's "normal" thing, i.e., totally ignoring real world users and doing whatever they feel like. I recently switched from Andoid to iPhone. On Android, not only could you mass delete email, but it would also delete them off the server. Likewise, if I deleted email from my computer, it would delete them from my inbox on my phone. In other words, I did not have to manage the inbox in two different locations. Now on my iPhone I have to do just that. Emails deleted from my computer stay forever in my inbox on my iPhone unless i manually delete one at a time. How ignorant is that?????

I tried Bama35OZ's fix, too, and, as he or she said, it worked, at first, but now they come back, after re-opening my email. Is there an outside ap that works well?

I am having the same result. Worked at first, but now they come back.

Press edit in your email inbox. Then select the first email by making the circle red next to the first email or any one email in your email box. Then put one finger on the move button on the bottom of the screen that has now become active since you selected one email. Now with your finger still on the move button press the original email again that you had originally selected. When you deselect that one email with your finger still on the move button it will,pause for a second. And then it will bring up a move screen. It will ask you where you want to move the emails to. You can simply click on the trash folder and it moves them all to the trash. It will also show you how many emails you moved.

The question I have to all that read this and enjoy this feature that I have found is why does it work perfectly on my iPad while it ***** on my iphone. On my phone it moves them back while on my iPad they stay put. It is supposedly the same operating system. ?????

Finally mass email deleting is available. Now it just needs to be slightly fixed for the phone. It is perfect. On the iPad.

Same problem using the "Check one - Move" techinique: it shows the emails are moved to the selected folder (Trash), but upon exiting Mail and re-open, the emails are back in the Inbox.

Any hints? Maybe something to do with the Account parameters and how Mail interacts with the Server?

The fix that has been identified works. However, as already pointed out, the emails come back. I've even gone through hundreds of them at a time and deleted them individually only to have them come back again.

The issue is of course that the emails remain on the server. There is an option in the settings to remove them from the sever after they are deleted. However, I don't want my iPhone to delete messages from the server because I primarily use my MacBook Pro for my emails.

It is very frustrating because when I delete them from my Mac they do not come back, but when they are deleted on my Phone they do. GET IT TOGETHER APPLE!!!! This seems to be a simple bug that really needs to be addressed.

No luck Eileen.....the old work-around that folks like BAMA are talking about no longer works if you upgraded your operating sysytem....it is absolutely awful that Apple has not fix this problem

Mass delete of emails is a must for us that are not techie savy and have our inboxes set up to not forward all the junk

I had to go to my email server and delete old emails. Mobile devices keep downloading what is on the server. Deleting on email account on computer didn't work either until I logged onto email provider's website. Guess I will have to go clean up there frequently.
