To share content with AirDrop, both users need one of the following devices using iOS 7:

  • iPhone 5 or later
  • iPad (4th generation)
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch (5th generation)

AirDrop transfers information using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You need an iCloud account to share with Contacts.

Hope this helps.

***! My 2nd generation iPad was able to update to IOS7 and seems to be working fine. But when I tried to use airdrop it just wouldn't show up. So I have spent the last hour trying to figure out what was wrong with my iPad/ios7 only to find out that the airdrop feature isn't supported on my iPad. Really??? Why can I update to the newest operating system and then when I try to use the features am totally frustrated to find out that not all features are supported even though the IOS is supported. There should be a page that describes which functions of ios7 are supported on which devices. Why isn't the entire ios7 supported on all devices? So, what other nifty functions of ios7 doesn't my iPad support?? Why let me upgrade and then frustrate the heck out of me?????
