This is really poor customer service and the opposite of what I would expect from Apple. If I buy a product with a store's name and upgrade that product with software or any ware that is provided expressly for this product [and bears that same company's brand name and all that implies], and it now disables one or two of the key features and selling points of the original product, regardless of the original manufacturer's warranty, how can that company not feel ethically and morally responsible to make my original product WHOLE and COMPLETE again without any expense paid by me - the until-now, loyal customer of the brand?!!

Are they saying [conveniently, now that a large proportion of these 4S owners are beyond a year of ownership, and thus, S.O.o.L warranty-wise], "Yes, we sold you a product with a latent defect in a key component, and our inferior - at the time - software was not good enough to expose this defect, but now, our latest-greatest software [that eats your battery like it's ice cream, turns your phone into a hand warmer, and does not do much else beyond make extensive and painful use of the color white] is so amazing and great that it has exposed the aforementioned latent defect and shown you what a piece of sh!te you spent your hard earned money on just over a year ago?

Would Steve Jobs be 'OK' with this response to his customers: "Too late, too bad, Go F yourselves."

TheBoatDoctor - I mentioned this to the Apple Care rep and she answered that it is stated in the agreement when updating to new iOS that if any problem arise that they pretty much aren't liable. I forget exactly what she said but that was the gist of it.

I 100% agree with you on this one though. It's Apple's OS that they released for Apple customers and Apple phones to download. It wasn't like we downloaded a pirated version or jail broke the phone.

    Frustrated and disappointed with Apple.

My daughter updated to iOS7 on her iphone 4S and the wifi is grayed out at times.  She just let me know this weekend but it has been happening since the update.  We have reset netwrok settings several times and the issue comes back.  Is Apple going to fix this?

After installed iOS7 I am facing the following two problems:

    1. WIFI as well as mobile data connection are working fine at my home. But, not connecting with any other outside WIFI networks. Error message is 'unable to join network'. Mobile data also not connected outside my home. Sometimes wifi and mobile data connect outside my home when I turn off and on the phone.

    2. Bluetooth, in my car, paires well and incoming and out going calls can be received and made. The problem is no sound out put from speakers.

Apple please make note of the above problems (of million people) and give solution before giving any other updations for painting and tinkering the screens.

I contacted my broadband provider and they reset my router so I now get the wifi on my ipad again. Hope that helps.

I think this Wi-Fi connection problem is coming from the channel numbers that is related with your router.

You have to check your router's wi-fi channel number and your wi-fi shouldn't coincide with other wi-fi networks. If it does then IPhone wi-fi connection might interrupt randomly.

Heres a post to this issue with greyed out wifi

    Here is the solution

Bring the chip to 300C° and the chip will totally reset.

Its in Italian but its kind of easy to get that what the guy is doing is taking out his wifi chip and heating it with a heat gun to 300degrees. No I dont think this means you put your iphone in the oven at 300degrees like others who have put there phone in freezer. What this shows is that APPLE has made a operating system that is taking out the wifi signal and based on this video the only way to reset the chip is to heat it to a certain temperature.
So the moral of the story? Apple needs to step up to the plate and first make an announcement of what the issue is for iphone 4s users and that they are working on it. Otherwise what this is telling me is that APPLE as well as other companies are now finding ways to cripple or disable old devices so that you will have to go out and purchase a new one? Brave New World people! Apple what about it? Step up to the plate and address this issue?

I have now constructed a rather 'stickyback plastic' Heath Robinson "cool case" for my iphone 4s in which it is laid on a gel freezer pack and the wifi has been on constantly with no problems for over two hours now (only lasted around 15 minutes once out of the freezer).

Totally ridiculous that I have to do this but at least at home I can use wifi because there is no 3G and rarely a phone/text signal in rural north Yorkshire (which is why I got the iphone in the first place to Facetime family and friends over wifi).

Blue Peter would be proud of me!

nicksvt-40 - I believe a replacement from Apple Store is under warranty for 90 days.

  • Cartimundua Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Indeed Subspace!  Make do and mend - but how far can the mighty Apple fall?

Whilst in the cold case my phone managed to download and install 7.0.3 with its purported bug fixes but to no avail. Wifi disappeared as soon as gel pack warmed up.

Ios7 was a poisoned bullet dressed up as a rosy red apple. If its not sorted pdq, I am going back to HTC.

Every time I upgrade, and spend days living with a mostly broken phone.
