The attempt to Burn Disc Failed. The device failed to respond properly.....

To my great joy the message below has started popping up as of today and Burning a Cd is impossible .... has anybody else encountered this problem and if so is there a solution ? . .

The attempt to Burn Disc Failed. The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.

Update your OS, we are at 10.4.6 and try another cd.

Try setting your power saving options to not put computer or the DISPLAY to sleep. I had similar problem, when I changed the settings it worked fine.

The power saving option doesn't work. This thing is random and Apple has made no effort to fix this issue. It is infuriating. Some days it works and most days it doesn't, with no rhyme or reason or pattern to suggest a solution.

I can't believe that this issue is several years old and no one, I mean not one person has come up with a solution except for buying a new drive or software, and even that hasn't worked for lots of mac users. This is a very common problem and it has gotten old (literally). Doesn't anybody have a definative answer for this?

Oh and I should preface that with my frustration being at Apple and not with those who post on these boards. I've had wonderful solutions for various mac related problems that I have gleamed from here, I just figured someone might have figured out what the issue was. I wish I was more technically proficient but that has never been my strong suit.
