Q: I have a Linksys wireless router in the basement where the cable comes into the house.  I want to install an Airport Express on the main floor to extend the wireless capability in the house.

I have an ethernet cable on the main floor that is currently plugged in to my MacBook.  If I take that plug out of the laptop and plug it into the Express, will this allow me to have an extension of my wireless network on the main floor of my house?  Is this what I should do?

If your overall networking goal is for the AirPort Express to extend the Linksys' wireless network using a wireless connection between them, then unfortunately, this will NOT work as the two are incompatible. If; however, you can support using a wired connection between then they both could be configured for a roaming type network.

Thank you for your help.  I believe I have it set up properly now.  The roaming type network link you sent me is what was most helpful as there were pictures.  I find things about Apple much easier to understand that way.
