I just upgraded to ios7 on my iPad retina,
I notice that the built-in dictionary function is not there anymore.
If I highlight a word I get two options: look up online, look up wiki.
Anyone else got the same issue? How to fix it?

I am having the same issue on both my iPad 2 and my iPad Mini . . . and it is really annoying. The dictionary was one of the things I really liked about iBooks. I assume it is coming back? Anyone?
While I was typing I found a simple solution: the answer is right here- safari. Just tap on any word in webpage and select " define" same windows will pop up - but now I can see the " manage" options thus able to download the dictionaries which is shared by all apps - including iBook
Upon installing the American Oxford dictionary, I noticed that the word lookup got slower. When I press Define, it takes a bit longer to return the definition of the word. Has anybody else noticed this?
Yes. Oxford is very slow. (Apple dictionary does not work).
When I try using the dictionary the whole ibook program locks up and the only way to get it working is to force close and reopen. Just adding info incase someone else has the same trouble.

However, the available dictionaries in "manage" pale compared to the original one in iBooks.
My dictionary has also stopped working. I have updated the os and iBooks but cannot load the dictionary I see the manage button and the dictionary options but none of them will install. Very frustrating.

Why do you say that? The original one in iBooks was just the New Oxford American Dictionary, which is still one of the choices.
After you've downloaded the dictionary, try rebooting your ipad by holding the power and menu keys till the appke sign appears. This solved the problem to me. I think it's one of the new update issues.
The problem for me is "manage" appears, I install a dictionary and then the next time I open an app, the dictionary needs to be reinstalled. Annoying.

I have this same problem, I was able to manage dictionary, then download apple and oxford. Then when I pressed define program locks up. New iPad, not a problem on 4s?
I've also tried deleting and reinstalling but has not worked.
Any suggestions?
