Add Printer When No Internet Access?

I have a bright shiny new MBP. I also have an HP CP6x (something). I want to add it so I can print. However, I have no Internet access when I have access to the printer. Drivers are available from Apple but not present on the MBP; needs to download them. Thus the catch22. Does this mean that I cannot add a printer when I have no Internet access? Apple REQUIRES Internet access to set up a printer?

Wow. How am I connecting to this site? Oh, I don't know, maybe via a different computer!

Greg; really? Thank you but INTERNET access is absent; not network access! The post clearly states no internet access. In other words, I was seeking advice on the problem I expressed; not the no internet access.

But to help imaginations work a bit better; envision a room where electronics, once introduced cannot be altered or removed. Then envision the same secured environment having no internet access. Add to that, having experience with macs that have always had the drivers already present.

So the answer is .... No, one cannot add a printer. Apple does force you to have access to the internet to add a printer. Direct access, via third party access (download outside security and through act of God bring a drive inside), or pre loss of access (during setup).

I'll look to the act of God solution.

Wow.

It sounds like you are disconnecting the ethernet from router/cable modem to connect it to the printer when you want to print? That is not the way networked printers are supposed to work

(or maybe you are using ad-hoc wireless connection to the printer - also not the way you want it to be used.)

Please descibe the exact model printer, router/modem, etc, and how everything is connected. When that's clear, then we can help.

Connect the Mac to the internet and download the HP printer drivers from Apple here: HP Printer Drivers v.2.14 for OS X. It will be a disk image file. Next, connect the printer, open the disk image file, launch the installer package and install the drivers.

If you want to use the printer while connected to the internet we need answeres to greg's questions regarding your setup.

I am also having this exact problem. I have a macbook pro connected to a Local Area Network with no Internet access along with an HP Color Laserjet 2600n printer that I need to install.

I can download the drivers on another network with internet access, but when I go to setup the printer on the LAN without Internet access, I cannot get the printer to install. I know how to do this with a PC, but how do you download drivers that can install without internet on a Mac?
