Q: Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

I posted this question in the basics forum, but it probably belongs here:  Since installing iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s, the battery life seems to be significantly reduced, at least judging by how quickly my battery life percentage meter keeps dropping.  I've gone through and turned off all sorts of settings, like location services on most everything, etc.  Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue?  Anyone know of any fixes?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7

mine was WAY better with ios5 and 6. the problem is that at 20%, you get the warning, and then just seconds later, the phone turns off. this was a big problem with 7.0, 7.01 and 7.02. They fixed it with 7.03, and then it came back again with 7.04, yet even worse. Another thing is that if you DON'T upgrade to 7.0, you can't turn off automatic updates, so my wife, who refuses to upgrade to 7 due to the battery issue, now get's erroneous overage charges every month. AT&T and apple have really dropped their balls on these issues.

Hopefully, Apple will fix this in the 7.0.5/7.1 update since it clearly is a software issue.

Worried about water damage? Don't worry the Apple shop will tell you have water damage even if your phone has never left the Saran desert....

I visited an Apple store a couple of days ago as my wife's iPhone battery now only lasts half a day with light use since updating a couple of months ago, compared to running on iOS 6 where it would last into the late evening. The store ran a check and stated the battery being more than 700 cycles is now only at 80% capacity fully charged and recommended changing the battery. The problem I now have is that it does not last 80% of the previously duration, maybe this is also due to a higher drain from ios 7.

The one thing I have not yet tried is a full reinstall without performing a restore which could potentially resolve any app/ setting issue, but may try this.

Does anyone have an experience of this actually making a difference please, as some forums suggest ?

    Paul,

The Apple store told me that I needed a battery replacement too. I replaced the battery and it made a huge difference.

Thanks Linda, will probably go the same route, just thought it was strange that the battery issue was only noticeable after ios 7, was fine before on ios 6.

How much does the battery replacment cost? Would they replace the phone with a new one same model or newer for extra amount of cash?

Currently, I am happily using Nokia! I charge it once or twice a week only!

After the iPhone 4s battery issue with iOS 7 it doesnt matter because 3G, wifi and everything is off, so basically there is no difference between a Nokia and an iPhone 4s excpet that iphone cost me 600$ while this cost less than 100$

Thank you for taking care of your customers Apple and thank you for your concern. NOT!

It really dissappoint me how APPLE just dont care at all!!! Like seriously! We made you! Customers like us made you! You are nothing without your customers, Samsung and Sony are getting close to you... you better change your behaviour and strategy on how you deal with loyal customers like us!

You dont have to release a defective iOS 7 to bug our 4 & 4s iPhone to make us buy the iPhone 5s!

What will happen when you release iPhone 6? Let me guess, you will release a defective iOS to bug the iPhone 5s users to make them buy a new one, running in circles, NO THANK YOU.

I am no longer Apple user, until you fix this...

MODS, do not be cowards and delete my post, please!

    100% agree!

ios 7 even crashed my 4s into inifinte boot loop.

no deal to make with the customer support.

so it is a shame they even call it that way.

when i told him if I get new warranty on the product if I replace it, customer support told me

"put some more dollars in and you will get a brand new phone"

there must be something wrong with your brains

    i will go with a  nokia for 50 €

@firaskurdi, the store quoted me 55 GBP to repace the battery.

I think it's disgusting that people are being told to upgrade there battery and having to pay the cost. Apple have made a change at there end, so why should users be out of pocket.

If Apple sold car's and you were told you could drive 1000 miles on a full tank of gas and you bought one. Then 6 months later, they told you they have a brand new engine! It's quicker, more efficient, and better for your car, plus it's free - however it's a condition that you must have it. Otherwise you warranty is no longer valid. You would trust Apple and have the new engine fitted.

Imagine then, your car no longer does 1000 miles on a full tank. Your lucky if you get 500!! Only to then be told, it's a problem with the petrol tank. They will then replace it, with a bigger tank which so you can now do the 1000 miles but you got to pay for that!

That's exactly (more or less) what is happening. The new battery does not fix the issue, it hides it. The new battery's are better and hold more charge than the last.

Apple gives the shaft to people that own laptops too.  My laptop has been being "repaired" for nearly 1 month across three seperate returns.  They refuse to refund or replace it.  The best part is that every time they give it back it's in worse condition than when I left it.  The last time it had physical damage to the outside and would no longer run more than 5 minutes without crashing.  Fantastic customer service!
