Ah! I believe you tried to sync before the restore from the upgrade was done. Notice how the usage is all Other.

Reset and restore from backup (Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings). Do not try to syn until the restore is finished. If you are restoring from iCloud you can check to see if it is finished here:

Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > you will see a "Stop Restoring" button if it is not finished and a "Backup Now" button if it is done.

I was able to fix it! iTunes can now see my iPhone5.

I followed these instructions:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

And re-installed the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver".

  • Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.
  • Click "Browse my computer for driver software."
  • Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
  • Click the Have Disk button. (If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)
  • In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.
  • Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
  • Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
  • Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.
  • Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

I had this problem since updating to ios7. Today, I backed up my phone to icloud. Then I deleted my icloud account off my phone. Then I connected my phone to itunes and was finally able to sync and put music back on my phone and finally sort out all my apps etc. However, all of my contacts were gone! So, I then go back to icloud on my phone (under settings) and put in my apple id and password. I turn off contacts and when asked, I save contacts to my phone. Then I turn on contacts again and merge contacts. All contacts come back after a short time because they are loaded from icloud and I then delete the icloud account from my phone. I now sync with itunes only and leave icloud well alone, but if I need to use icloud, i just log in when necessary.
