Macbook Pro

OS X 10.8.5

2.5 GHz Intel Core i5

4GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Safari won't properly open after the system update. It bounces on the dock for a few seconds and nothing happens. When you click a few times, it crashes. However, it works fine on safe mode.

I have tried all the options that is available on the internet (ex. safe mode, reinstall, disk utilities, deleting caches, and several other provided options).

When I try opening Safari a few times, Finder crashes with it.

Click Download then go to your Downloads folder and double click the EtreCheck app.

At bottom of that window, click:  Copy report to clipboard

Then paste the results in your Reply.

Uninstall Rapport > Uninstalling Rapport on Mac OS X | Trusteer

That software has caused many a Mac user problems as noted from the results from an Apple Support Communities seach > Community Search: Apple Support Communities

    User Login Items:

              Google Drive

              Box Edit

All problematic. But uninstall Rapport first, then restart your Mac and try Safari first.

No wonder both Safari and the Finder are crashing.

Thank you for the reply. Unforuntately, the process did not work. Still can't open Safari.

  • Carolyn Samit Level 10 (102,820 points)

    Ok..  more troubleshooting to do.

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups then select the Login Items tab.

Remove all login items then restart your Mac to test.

Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder

Type or copy paste the following:

Move the com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist and the com.trusteer.rooks.rooksd.plist files

from the LaunchDaemons folder to the Trash

    Do the same for:

Move the com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist from the LaunchAgents folder to the Trash

Restart your Mac.  See if that made a difference.

thank you very much! This solution solved both the Safari and Finder glitching problem!!!

Nevermind... the Finder problem isn't solved.

    Help, please?

  • Carolyn Samit Level 10 (102,820 points)

What happens when you open the Finder?

  • s.momo0818 Level 1 (0 points)

The program shuts down randomly. Even when I am not using it, it restarts every 30 seconds.

    pop up message:

"the last time you opened finder, it unexpectedly quitted while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again."

  • Carolyn Samit Level 10 (102,820 points)

But you were able to use the Finder before to locate the Library files..

    Restart your Mac again.
