Fixing Outlook 2016 failure to automatically load iCloud Outlook add-in:

You may have seen the following error message, perhaps when responding to a meeting invite in Outlook 2016.

Outlook experienced a serious problem with the apple.dav.addin add-in

This add-in is incompatible with Data Execution Protection mode and should be disabled or upgraded to the latest version.

Do you with to disable this add-in from loading?

(Yes) (No)

Use the Outlook 2016 UI to enable the possibly disabled Add-in.

File / Options / Add-ins

Change the "Manage:" dropdown to "Disabled items"

Click the GO button.

When the pop-up window appears,

highlight Addin: apple.dav.addon (aplzod32.dll)

then click Enable

then click Close

Close Outlook 2016

Open Outlook 2016

File / Options / Add-ins

Verify that iCloud is not disabled.

Return to the main Outlook 2016 display.

In the "Tell me what you want to do" box (top-middle of the screen), type the words "COM Add-ins" and press Enter.

In the pop-up window, verify that "iCloud Outlook Add-in" is automatically checked.

If it is not checked, proceed to the "registry surgery" steps described below.

Sometimes, even if not in the "disabled" list under File / Options, you may

need to perform the following "registry surgery":

Run RegEdit.exe (As Administrator)

Locate the following entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Apple.DAV.Addin

LoadBehavior

change value from 0 to 3

Exit RegEdit

If the value of LoadBehavior is already 3, then you may need to use the Outlook 2016 UI to fix

the issue as described here:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms268871.aspx

Detail on LoadBehavior:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb386106.aspx

0 = unloaded

1 = loaded but not automatically

2 = unloaded - load as startup

3 = loaded - load at startup <--- most desired value

8 = unloaded - load on demand

9 ... see URL above

Guys, I fixed it.

Click here (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455)to download a clean / separate install of iCloud Control Panel 3.0 for Windows.

Go to Windows program manager or what ever its called & completely uninstall your current iCloud Control Panel 3.0 for Windows. This is most likely the one you got bundled with iTunes 11.1 (was in my case).

Restart PC as per the removal process. Upon restarting install the downloaded iCloud Control Panel 3.0 for Windows. Go through the setup & your off & running.

In my scenario I just ticked everything to ensure I didn't accidentally delete any contacts / tasks / calendar items etc that may have been in one place but not another. I ended up having to delete 300+ double / triple / quadruples of contacts in the iCloud contacts within Outlook but now I'm totally sweet.

Good luck all 🙂

OK...it's a New Year and I've attempted to deal with the iCloud Outlook add-in incompatibility issue for months now, including aeblong's solution. I continue to get notices like this:

---------------------------

Microsoft Outlook

---------------------------

Outlook experienced a serious problem with the 'icloud outlook add-in' add-in. This add-in is incompatible with Data Execution Prevention mode and should be disabled or upgraded to the latest version. Do you wish to disable this add-in from loading?

---------------------------

Yes No

I don't want to disable DEP and expose my computer to malicious executable files. I don't want to disable the the iCloud add-in that allows my PC laptop Office 2010 Outlook program to sync with my Apple devices. Hasn't Apple or Microsoft figured out a way to have this software work together yet?

Thank you! Your solution worked perfectly. I have Windows 7 64 bit and my apple devices run IOS 8. The fresh version of iCloud for Windows gave me the option of switching on the link to Outlook Calendar, Tasks etc which I had never seen before in the iCloud for Windows application. Once activated, that selection disappeared so that the iCloud window looked the same as before. The previous version, as noted probably downloaded from iTunes, somehow failed to include that activation selection.
