My iPad is disabled because I couldn't remember the password. I can't restore it because I have to turn off "Find My Phone" first. Since it is disabled, I can't do that either.

It depends on what you lost. If you lost your passcode, the 4 digit number that unlocks your device, then follow the instructions from Zane W. However, if you're talking about your Apple ID password, it gets to be a lot more complicated. You will have to pass Apple's security hurdles to recover it. See this:

Hi - I am having the same problem. I installed the new ios and it has decided to activate the pass lock for me without my wanting this to happen. I have no idea whatsoever what the code is.

When I've tried to restore iTunes is saying I need to turn off Find my iphone on my phone but I can't because the phone is locked! the thread you linked to doesn't help with this scenario.

This just happened to me too. Zane's advice, while well meant, is no use because "Find my iPad" or "Find my iPhone" stops the restore from happening - you have to be able to access the device to turn of the Find function in order to be able to restore. Obviously this cant happen, because the device is locked.

I just found a work around - albeit long and dirty. While the device is plugged into a Mac and is syncing, it will let you try the passcode as many times as you can before the sync is finished. It does not disable it. If you think you can figure it out given a number of tries, start syncing the biggest files you have and then go hard on the combo lock.

Worked for me - thankfully.

I have now found out how to do this after calling apple care. You need to put your device in recovery mode by doing this:

and then it restored and worked fine.

I had this problem. One day I went to use my iPad and it said disabled... I went to itunes to restore it and I got the same message you got to turn off Find My iPad but couldn't because I something was wrong with my password. My iPad only uses Wifi and I noticed it wasn't connected to my wifi (yet, I'm at home) so I couldn't go to iCloud and wipe it. I did find this to be helpful and now I'm back and running:

• Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
• Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
• While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
• Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
• iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

I have the same problem but I don't know what to do either. I have disabled my Ipad and I need to connect it with itunes but I cant because i have never done that before and I don't want to wipe anything off my ipad either and i'm going overseas next week and i really need it for that. is there anyway i can do this without whiping anything off my Ipad but still getting back into it? 🙂

I Have similar issue except my iPad isn't disabled it just won't boot up. I've been advised to do restore and iTunes find iPad but I can't restore as "find my iPad" is switched on.

ANy my ideas hie to turn this off if iPad doesn't boot up???
