Wifi won't turn on iPhone 4S

Reset then try again ...

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings

You will have to re enter your Wi-Fi password.

HI.... I note that this has been suggested before.. So I am just confirming that I did the " hold down the home and power/sleep buttons at the same time until the Iphone shuts down and reboots itself" trick... And when it rebooted my wifi was working again..

It took about 20 seconds or so to close down and I think that this is called a "hard reset"....

OF course, I had to re-enter my WiFi password again to Login to my wifi.. But it worked for me... Fingers crossed that it stays fixed And doesn't stop again after a few days as others have found....

Just another thought... I had the Iphone in a recharge dock overnight and Intook it out without turning off the power first this morning, that's when I found the wifi not working.. I wonder if my actions gave a small power spike which affected the wifi module???
