It happened the same to me.  Did the hair dryer-freezer trick and wi-fi started working.

After 3 weeks i was streaming music in my car using bluetooth and after that wifi was gone.  Again, did the blowdryer-freezer thing and wifi back on.  Also the wifi symbol did not show at the top of the screen but after turning on off the wifi several times the symbol started showing.

I upated to iOS7.1 and wifi kept working.  The iPhone now is more responsive and works better.  I decided not to use the bluetooth in my car (or for anything), to see if wifi keeps working.  Maybe it is the bluetooth that affects the wi-fi.

I personally find the following video on you tube is the best one to view for instructions on how to carry out the heat and freeze fix for problems with wifi connections

I had the usual iPhone 4s symptoms: WiFi greyed out, degraded BlueTooth, very high battery drain.

After updating everything and checking each app I finally tried the hair dryer but mine was too weak. I used my heat gun with the temperature on moderate. After 5 minutes the corner of the display started to blacken but would recover as soon as I took the heat away. I held it with the top 1cm mostly black but gave up at 10 minutes without getting the over-temperature warning. I did a hard reset and left it to cool. When I turned it back on all the problems have gone and all it working 24 hours later.

So I still don't know why it worked but I add my story to the data mix. Maybe someone will work it out.

It can't be a hardware failure or it couldn't be fixed without replacement.

If it is purely software why did my attempt fix it?

I suspect an aerial connection problem cause part of the OS to stay in a loop.

I think I was running 7.0.3 for a while before the issue. 7.1 changed nothing.

While I had the problem a number of settings pages were quite slow to load: 'settings', 'general', 'personal hotspot'

im just gonna post this again for everyone that doesnt want to try the hairdryer method.

    - reset network settings

    - back up and restore. test issue before restoring back up.

    - get phone replaced

    in that order

the button is grey.. after i put it on freezer, it works again.

O my God... why it became like this..

i think its not a hardware issues.. but the software..

Dear Apple.. could you fix this problem...

apple isnt listening on these forums. they are user to user threads. if the issue is software try these steps.

    - reset network settings

    - back up and restore. test issue before restoring back up.

    - get phone replaced

coincidentally this is also how u check to see if it is hardware or software. if its software the restore and set up as new WILL fix it. if its hardware that step wont. which is y the next step is to get the phone replaced.

Well after the hair dryer trick the iPhone 4s has been working fine so people do it it works no need for the freezer just let it cool on it's own , re setting phone doesn't work so don't waste your time and as I have said don't waste your breathe talking to Apple complete waste of time

im not nocking on ur method of the hairdryer trick. to each his own. but for some people the reset DOES work so please do not tell people to not follow the proper troubleshooting steps. personally, id just get my phone replaced if i had to resort to taking a hair dryer to it but thats just me.

+1 hair dryer trick worked for me.

    bit of a worry tho.

great way for Apple to force phone upgrades via software updates!

  • TJBUSMC1973 Level 5 Level 5 (6,780 points)

Apple isn't forcing any phone upgrades.  They make plenty of money on the App Store & iTunes Store.

And if the software is designed to break an older device, then it sure does a terrible job, since my iPhone 4 running iOS 7 has had no issues whatsoever since June of last year.
