Problems calibrating compass on iOS 7

I've just installed iOS 7 on my iPhone 4S but I can't calibrate the compass - the ball simply won't roll around the circle. The spirit level works fine, so I imagine it's not a problem with any sensors. Any thoughts?

Ditto for me, also on an iPhone 4s. The first time I opened the Compass app, I tilted the ball around and it successfully calibrated and showed the azimuth. But subsequent attempts at calibration do nothing and after several seconds the app shows the compass dial, but it is frozen. Doesn't seem to be a sensor issue, because other apps with a compass (such as Motion X GPS) seem to work fine. I've tried force quitting the app and rebooting the iPhone, but neither solved the problem.

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 5. The compass will simply not calibrate - never did. Every time I restart the app it tries to calibrate, but will not. The red ball does not move when I tip the phone. Not sure how to fix. Not enough critical mass I guess. Thinking that this app was somehow corrupted during the upgrade process. Considering wiping my phone and restoring unless I can find a more elegant solution.

This has worked for me too. But the first time I opened the Compass app after the restart, it bypassed the calibrate screen. So, I re-started the app and the calibrate screen did appear - rolled the ball around. All fine now, but keeping True North switched off from now on. Judging by the comments on here it seems a very hit and miss fix, which is odd.

After trying the ideas on this page, without success, I had an epiphany. I'm trying to calibrate my compas inside my house. I went outside and it worked. If you too are attempting to calibrate inside, go outdoors and give it another try. There are many things inside a house or other types of buildings that can interfere with all types of signals and magnetic fields. It just so happens that my house has siding, making it a quasi faraday cage. Even next to a window I can't get full bars or circles as it is now. If this doesn't work, try again with true north on and off. I hope this helps.
