How can I sync 2 iPhones to the same mac?

Hello,

My wife and I share the same macbook but each have an iPhone 4s we would like to back up and sync. Are we able to back up both phones onto the same macbook and then download all the content (especially contacts) onto our new iPhone 5s? If so, please advise on how to do so.
